Track insurance is definitely for piece of mind, but also comes with quite a bit of protection when the bill is not just your car, but could also be for any damage to the track itself (tire barriers, walls, berms, etc.). I have purchased it for all my DE's mainly for protection from others, I'm not a highly aggressive driver and will back off, but a car in front dumping oil/coolant/poo on the track is going to be bad regardless of skill.
