Glad to hear about your being so comfortable with model. I've decided to go for 2 years/24K miles for the warranty. I nerded out and used a rudimentary regression technique to compare the slopes of the of the cost over time, and think the sweet spot is 2 years.
If you have extra time US281 can be a good north-south alternative to 35. Some nice little small towns to stop, get gas, grab a bite to eat, chat up the locals without having to deal with 35 traffic...T

I grew up in one of those small towns on 281. It was old folks with German accents, ranchers, etc. Now it's a bedroom community, which is a major contributor to the traffic on 281. Ironically, I moved into the city (still less than 1/4 mile from 281) to escape the traffic. 281 is great once you're North of Sprng Branch.

The only thing that I see that you're doing wrong is heading back to S Tejas instead of heading north out of Tempe and finding US 89 North through Utah!

Congrats and keep us apprised of the stupid grin you'll have on your adventure!

How right you are! I remember a stretch of 89 between Yarnell and Prescott that was epic. Unfortunately, I was in a rental pick-up!

Won't be a rental truck if you drive it this trip
