Default Loving my 997.1

Having owned my 997.1 C4S since 2009, there comes a point when you feel your car is outdated, not as fast, not as good handling, not having enough gadgets, and internet nonsense scares you of engine troubles, etc...

Then, you get a puncture and cannot replace your Pilot Super Sport tire for over a month due to low supply... you get to drive other cars and brands for a while before finding a tire and getting your car back. OH BOY, do I LOVE THIS CAR! It seriously is amazing... feels great, handles amazing, works perfectly, sounds fantastic, is freakingly fast, and is easy and a blast to drive.

I LOVE THIS CAR! Anyone else?

Freaking fast, lol, guess you haven't driven the new 991.2. The 997 actually feels freaking slow up here in altitude. The 997 is definitely fun to drive and quite the bargain for a 911. The 996 is more of a bargain but it's unattractive inside and out.

Thank you for this !

I feel the same, even so I was thinking of making a similar topic in the 997 turbo section. I love, love my car. I am not a Porsche freak, I love cars in general but the 997 platform is special to me.

I have owned most 911 models from the '76 2.7 on. I always liked those cars but never loved them the way I do my 997.

I own a 997 turbo since they came out. I bought my car new and sold it after 2 years thinking I was done with it (like all the others before).
Ready to move on. Boy, was I wrong. Within a year the desire to own a 997 again was so big I had to have an other.

And now my car is my 'end car'*, we both will grow old together and loving every minute of it.

*as a hobby car, not DD of course. A year ago I got an M135i as a DD and it is fantastic.

I have the same feelings having owned one only for two years. It's so versatile, it's fast, it's capable, it's beautiful. It's highly emotional. I have driven it like crazy the last 6 months. Many 3-4 hour trips, one track event and it's impossible not to get attached. I come from motor bikes so this is exactly my remedy. I cleaned the car after a two days (900 km) road trip a few weeks ago and thought - I must document this to myself - all the shapes I love. All the angles, the noise if the engine. So - with the help of my daughter she made a tribute video to the car from the pictures I had and the videos I took before.

Ditto OP! I enjoy driving our other cars, yes, even the 200K mile Ridgeline, but the 997 is special. The Ferrari sounds better, the Benz gets better gas mileage, the Ridgeline holds more, yada, yada, but as a total package, my 997.2S is hard to beat. 2.5 years, almost 25K miles, and I still look forward to hopping in and going for an unnecessarily long ride.

For example, bought some Techron on Saturday. Conventional wisdom says - add it at your next fill up. BUT, I just filled up on Friday. So, what to do? Get up early on Sunday and take a 200+ mile joyride with generous use of Sport Plus.
Problem solved, the 997 way!

I never get tired of that special leather smell as I get into the 997. It seems only Porsche can produce it exactly.

Also the sound of a Porsche door closing, its sounds so mechanical, solid and final, reminds me when I hear the door closing on a jet liner before backing away on tarmack.

I agree. My '07 997 C4S is the last and best Porsche I've owned. I have owned some nice ones too, eight total, over 30 years. It is hard to rationalize spending $ 140K for a new replacement .

I am not saying the car is perfect or anything, but it's for sure an amazing car and better than most of brand new cars on the road.

Sometimes you take what you have for granted, and I didn't realize it until I couldn't drive it for a month!

It's true. I got a Panny 4 loaner once. Man, I was missing my 997.2S. When I got the Passat loaner, I was moaning. Parked it in my driveway and refused to drive it except to return it. Camry rental?

+1. I am amazed at how much I love this car. I hve been a car lover for decades but never thought much about a 911 until I bought mine on impulse last year. It is a wonderful car that makes me very happy.

The best way to cure "the itch" for a new one is not being able to drive your 997 for a while and then getting back into it.

From all the cars I owned the only one that I miss from time to time is the 2004 645Ci.
Don't miss the 964 (had 3) or 993 at all. Would have turned out a great investment if I kept them but driving them ? No thanks.
Had a 996 C4S , great car but not missed at all either.
I have enjoyed them all for sure. But nothing like I enjoy the 997.

For me 997 is a special number
