I hope I am able to express this correctly. 08 997.1 4s... How much play should I expect before the clutch is engaged? It seems as if I'm using a lot of play before engagement . This car was sold to me with the clutch being replaced from the dealership.. Btw I just picked up the car Thursday and its my first 997
Thanks as always

Clutch should engage pretty close to the floor, not up near the end of the travel. Worn clutches make the pedal stiffer and start engaging higher. Might try bleeding the clutch to see if it has some trapped air causing the late engagement.

My experience when I got my 4S was that my clutch was way heavy and I stalled the car on test drive. Salesman, I say that very loosely, said its the 4S. They have stuff clutch. Car had 18k on it. Didn't sweet it and bought it. It was worn and as I drove it the wear was more and more.
So, don't trust the fact that you bought it from the dealer. It's sad they can and have lied in the past. Not nice to say but it's just sad that things happen like this.
Clutch was replaced when I had tranny work done and it was night and day from old and new. So if it's stiff, it's worn. Get documentation that I was replaced and don't trust what they said. Then try the bleed as mentioned.
Good luck.

When I bought my 2009 C2S in 2012 it had 19K miles on the clock from a prior owner. The clutch was very stiff from the start and engaged mid way off the floor. I baby my clutch and over time it eventually engaged higher off the floor. I ended up having to replace the clutch a few months ago with 36K miles on the clock. Don't trust any dealer or anyone regarding clutch wear on a pre-owned vehicle. From what I hear these clutches should get far more than 35K miles on them before needing replaced.

Thanks guys... Sounds to me like the clutch wasn't replaced. The clutch is very high. I have big feet and I cant plant my heel and rock it to depress the clutch. Ill be calling the dealership tomorrow.

One does not "plant [one's] heel and rock it to depress the clutch". One raises the left foot and pushes the clutch to the floor with the ball of the foot.
