K&N oil filter - anybody used one?
Has anyone used K&N oil filters? I'm not a big fan of their cleanable air filters ...

debated about it but could not find any spec except on the k&n website that says "premium" filter material. Was 1/2 the price of the mahle or prosche OEM on line, bur decided not to chance it.

It's easy to assume the K&N isn't good, or isn't as good, as OEM. Since Porsche doesn't make filters, even the OEM Mahle is 'aftermarket'.
It's hard to find good info on BITOG because 'K&N' is too short a search term.
K&N advertises that it meets or exceeds all of Porsche's specs and that it's 99% efficient. If that efficiency is based on the standard 20um standard, it's better than OEM.
It's 3.5h round trip to buy a filter at the dealer, so I'm going to have to order one on line anyway. I'll order 1 K&N too and do a visual comparison.

I should have mentioned... This isn't about money. I'm happy to pay for quality and peace of mind, but I also need evidence. I have no evidence the Mahle is any better, or even as good.

I see you have a 2011 C2 which probably has a CPO warranty?
Anything you put on/around your engine that is not Porsche recommended (not sure K&N is?) will come back to haunt you if you need warranty work.
I went through this a few years ago on a CPO Porsche and it took a lot of back and forth talking to get them to cover the work.

The Porsche filter is designed for the 9A1 Porsche engine from the start. One thing I would not mess with...

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Good discussion.
Really, I'm not suggesting the K&N is some great filter. But I really don't know that the OEM filter is all that great either.
The Porsche filter that is "designed specifically for the 9A1 engine" is also used on:
911 Turbo or Turbo S - 2010-2013
Panamera (all versions, except diesel and hybrid) - 2009-2013
Panamera or Panamera 4 - 2014+
Panamera GTS - 2014+
Panamera Turbo or Turbo S - 2014+
Cayenne S - 2011 or newer
Cayenne Turbo - 2011 or newer
Cayenne Turbo S - 2012 or newer

I remember reading about some negative MAF affects when using k&n
For example... (The search turned up quite a few along the same vein)

Does anyone even read threads anymore before responding? Sheesh.
Anyway op, k&n is a reputable company and their oil filters are fine products. They won't harm your engine. Use it if you like. It's not like you're ordering a lot of 100 filters from alibaba for $3.50.
