They said that they don't recommend it for the 4S/4WD cars. I have the RS LWFW in my GT3 and it's great (if noisy) but not in my X51 C4S yet.

In any case, Im going to move forward with the install on mine, so Ill let you know how it goes. If its really an issue with the NA AWD cars, then maybe the resolution is to do a RWD conversion for my project, down the road. Will have to see.

I dug up the email from Alex, he said " We don't do the LWF on the AWD cars as it adds a lot more
noise/vibration through the chassis"
Looking forward to your before/after thoughts

I didn't particularly like the LWFW in my C4S. It was hard to get rolling smoothly, especially if there was any sort of incline. I also had a lot of release bearing chatter, but strangely enough, only when the car was warmed up. That was probably just the age of the bearing and unrelated to the LWFW though.
I recently came across the RWD conversion parts for 996 AWD cars, which I'm told will work with 997.1 C4/C4S cars.

Thanks for the feedback on the LWFW. I have a brand new release bearing, pilot bearing, and sprung sport clutch going in, so it will be interesting to see how much noise/vibration it generates.
I am very tempted to order that RWD kit. I doubt this car will be driven in the snow again, now that all the suspension bits have been installed. Almost every person who has done the RWD conversion on the AWD 996/997 that I have read, raves about it.

Basically becomes sorta like a 997 GTS rwd if you do that, heard good things as well. I like the 4s, as it makes it versatile but as you know it's never really truly AWD. However, if for some reason your daily or Audi is giving you trouble this is a nice third option with snow tires.
I guess you could try it out, and always convert back if you wanted.
Looks and sounds great!!!

Well, went by the shop to test drive the car, and it is incredible. The drive was short, it was raining, but I had a blast. Cant wait to feel the difference once the LWFW and new clutch is in. Also...
While there, I was litterally just about to talk to the guys about the RWD conversion idea, when they informed me that one of the seals at the front was leaking (IIRC between the half shaft and the front differential.) Perfect timing!!! The Mods Gods had spoken! I went home and ordered the RWD conversion kit that Sabooteur posted above.
