Default 997.1 idle

Hi guys,

I love my first Porsche so far.
And by you guys help, I fixed door lock(micro switch thing). Thank you.

Anyway, I have one more question.
My car's idle is little bit rough. And please take a look of youtube movie clip.
What do you guys think?

However, when I push pedal, it runs very smooth.

I'd probably try cleaning out the throttle body first. They can get kind of grimy.

yeah mine's rock steady and my mechanic is the one who mentioned he cleans out the throttle body if he has the airbox out. Not that you have to remove the airbox, you can just remove the hose. But if the airbox is out, he cleans the TB.

He basically just sprayed a bit of cleaner in there and wiped the inside, nothing elaborate.

My idle was bumpy until I changed plugs at 33k. The plugs were probably 10 years old.

Idle is now smooth and the needle dead flat.

Could also be that your motor mounts are starting to fail and are not absorbing the vibration.

I can't see the video but before you throw money at this check out other cars if possible. Mine is not, never has been, and would not be expected to be 'rock steady'. Fluctuations of maybe 25 rpm up/down and a bit rougher when cold. Normal in my book and very subjective depending on what you expect. If it takes gas cleanly without stumble I would enjoy many miles with this car before I started to worry about this sort of stuff. Depending on mileage it would be good t o know when and if plugs and coils have been changed. Check manual for rough idea of service intervals. Go drive your car

Rough idle is usually a fuel/air issue. Under acceleration, if she stumbles, then you have either fuel/air or electric issues... or both. <--- as a rule for what you should worry about first.

You press accelerator, a little more fuel comes in with more air and smooths out. At idle, you want the minimum am't of fuel... so if it's off a bit, it will be a bit rough.

Full tank of the best gas you can get, clean whatever you can (Throttle body intake, etc) add something like Royal Purple fuel system/injector cleaner, and an Italian tune up (when was the last time this thing ran to 7000 RPMs for a few cycles???).

Hopefully, you changed oil immediatley upon purchase. Contaminated oil can leach past rings and foul things up and generally create thin oil, but changing the oil immediately after a used car purchase in not open to debate, unless you saw it changed, etc.

Mine has idles a little rough since I bought it at 18,000 mi. Dealership offered no help as no fault codes. I changed the plugs and intake filter, no joy. Found a cracked plastic hose behind the airbox. Taped it up with electrical tape since a new one was over $100 for a 4" tube. Didn't solve it. I'll try throttle body next time I'm in there. Good luck & let us know what you find.

My 2006 C2S now has 51K. It has fresh fuel, plugs, coils a clean air filter and throttle body. it has never idled smoothly, but especially at cold start.
