Default Seeking Opinions on 997.2 purchase

Hi Everyone,
New to this forum. Getting back into a Porsche after a number of years without. Drove an '89 3.2 Carrera for 12 yrs before moving abroad.
Have been getting lots of useful advise online, especially from Rennlist so thanks to all.
I've narrowed down my search to a 2009 - 2011 Carrera S Coupe and have focused in on a couple and would like to hear what you folks have to say:

#1 2011 w/41k miles I can get for $51,500. It's clean but in need of a good detailing. No service records beyond what Carfax has to offer. Carfax show no accidents but 4 owners and a cross country move before a sale at auction.
Now sitting in a Ford dealership that's clueless about P cars. Would do a PPI before moving forward.

#2 2009 w/17k miles with an asking price of $59,000. One owner car being offered by same dealership that originally sold the car and serviced it since it was new.
Included in the price is Porsche CPO warranty. Haven't seen photos yet as it just came into the dealership.

Both cars are PDK with comparable options. Not sure if the '09 come with Sport Chrono though.

Any changes in the later car either mechanical or cosmetic that I should factor in?

Would love to hear for & against arguments for both vehicles.

2009 is the 997, I could be wrong but the 2011 is a 991 model and is a slightly different chassis.

As with all these cars options are what everyone one on this board will tell you you must have, but it's really up to you, if you enjoy searching for every "must have" option do more research. But coming from that 89 I am sure that you will find these cars beyond thrilling to own and drive.

For me #2 would be more appealing, because of the factory warranty, but Porsche has a nationwide search that will filter only CPO cars if you want.

The 2010+ comes with an updated steering wheel, if that matters to you at all. They aren't interchangeable either.

991s weren't till 2012.5 in the US.

You want Sport Chrono with PDK.....I'd look at more options but a service history, is very important and CPO you can't beat.

#2 definitely the better car, priced about $4K too high IMHO, even for CPO.

'09 PDK can have Sport Chrono +. Made sure I got that when shopping for mine.
Lay eyes on what you buy. Just my personel experience.
About 4-5 years ago a fellow lister in NY asked if anyone could run by a Ford dealership in DFW. Basically had the 997 deal done. Just so happened it was like 10 minutes from my office and my best bud that was a dealer or independent P tech his whole life was coming by for lunch. NY lister called the dealer who had the car in the pull through runing for us to take a spin. My pal did a walk around, looked under neath, opened the rear hatch. Took like 5 minutes or less. Asked me the price and said, we don't need to drive it. Let's go to lunch.
It had been hit hard in the rear, wet on the bottom side and a few other minor things. Saved the guy a heart ache and money. Passed on the "deal".

Thanks for the input everyone.

Mreloc - According to KBB price as equipped w/CPO says asking price $60K+
NADA lists it at $58,100
On what info or guide are you basing your "about 4K too high.
I'm always looking for ammo to present to dealer

Just real world experience. I passed on an 09 cpo cabrio with 17k miles listed for 53K (non S)

I just purchased a one owner, CPO C4S 2010 cabrio with 9K miles and $122K sticker with 40k mile full service done new tires and battery for $66K

KBB is not awesome. Check out some comps on Cargurus

I think there are some variations per market you need to take into account as well.

I know cars here are generally cheaper than where I used to live in the Northeast.

I was on the search since March. Bought my '09 S 2 weeks ago. Since seller was a fellow lister on this forum, I'll not share the deal but will PM. Be looking.

Mreloc - Just did a quick national search thru 1st page of Cargurus and all 09-11 S models with <20k miles are in $58-$63K range w/o CPO. Great deal out there somewhere but the one I'm considering is reasonably local and I'll prob trade in my '13 Audi Q5 to simplify things.
Own Goal - thought I became a member earlier today. Got you EM will reply

I bought a CPO '09 911 2S with 25k miles 6 months ago in Dallas, TX. PDK, sports chrono plus, full leather interior in like new condition. I paid about 57k. I also got no service history other than Carfax and Autocheck. Porsche dealers don't or won't share service info. with each other. I've been really happy with the car.

If you get a PDK make sure it has sports chrono plus. PDK without sports chrono would really suck IMO.

Good luck!

Just bought one yesterday for $44k in SoCal. CPO is almost up. Past the link below into your browser snd replace the vin at the end with the vin of the cars you are looking at. It will give you the build sheet so you can see the options.

Mileage? Is that manual or PDK?
