Really want a GTS so it has all those buttons. Less blank spots Is there a thread from when you made the change...

Great summary.

My bro got a 991 C2S with PDK and says next time he will go MT. He doesn't flat out admit that he regrets it, but.....

I think they do on the 997.2? Don't have a PSE fitted yet but understood that the sport and sport+ button also opened exhaust flaps? Not sure about the 997.1

It does in 991.2 if you have PSE. You can override it and turn it off if you want. In fact, in Sports mode you also turn on crackles and burbs. It Sports+ mode just the additional growl.

Nope. Sport/sport + or the S-PASM buttons do not activate PSE on the 997.2; there is a separate button for that...

Been driving stick only my whole 30 year driving career.
Hoping to keep it that way.

Until I'm forced into an electric car.

I went the other direction and regretted it. Had the same car in DSG but then got it with a manual and it just ruined things.

You are correct there is a separate button but that is not needed if you use the sport or sport + buttons i think unless you want to turn off the PSE when in sport mode from what i have read.

This is from suncoast Porsche

The standard Porsche flat-six engine has a powerful acoustic presence. Better still, it can be enhanced with our dual-mode sport exhaust system. The sound depends on your style of driving, ranging from standard output during normal road driving to a more aggressive tone during high-performance use. Modes are selected using a button on the center console. On vehicles with the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus, the fuller sport exhaust note is enabled when "Sport" mode is selected. The package also includes stainless-steel tailpipes with a hard chrome plated (flat silver) finish.
Our kit also comes with the dash switch, please enter your correct VIN number and we will select the correct version for your car.

So I'm hoping you are wrong

Default I'm pro PDK, but with conditions.

Hi,

I'm all pro-PDK, have driven during 35 years only manuals (VW, Audi, Porsche 944, just to name a few) and even compared my 997PDK with same model 997Man and frankly... I prefer PDK :
  • PDK ON : I can drive relax when I want to, but can also gear up or down just with a flick of the finger, especially handy as I have Sport & Sport+ mode.
  • PDK OFF : fully manual handling and feeling.
It took however some time for me to get used to PDK OFF shifting for 2 reasons :
  • I was used to use normal gear lever with 1 to 4,5 or 6 positions, but never really got used to the sequential Gear Up/Down stick. Even after driving my 997 for 3 years now, I still only use the paddles when driving PDK OFF.
  • as this is my first automatic car (if you can call a PDK so), it took me some time to stop pushing in the missing clutch pedal when shifting manually
So ... personally to me, a PDK can be exactly the same as driving a manual if I want to, except it doesn't have a clutch pedal and using a sequential paddle system instead of a conventional gear lever.

I must stress however that I had Sport and Sport+ retrofitted on my 997.2, because in PDK ON, driving in hills, I always felt the need to override manually, or go full manual for better road feeling.

I'm probably not the first to say this but IMO, Sport/Sport+ is the Viagra for Porsche PDK's. Some of you will certainly understand what I mean

When do I use it ?

  • Sport OFF : only in town, or on highway at cruise speed.
  • Sport ON : as soon as on the road out of town
  • Sport+ ON : mainly when I'm out with local club on a trip, especially in hills. PDK shifts down exactly when I want to, but I don't let it go to ultimate rev, and manually shift up myself (don't like to redline the car)
I'm sure there are those who will always swear only by manual Porsches, I can understand them too. The pleasure of selecting gears with a lever is still something I miss when driving with PDK OFF.

Perhaps this is the ideal Porsche : PDK with Sport & Sport plus, steering wheel paddles AND a manual 7-gear lever old H style :-)

Well, that was my 2 cents worth :-)

Interesting.

My ears tell me that this is not possible BUT perhaps I need to dig deeper into SC and prove myself wrong (and you correct!)

Unfortunately I'm fully into withdrawals as the 997 has sat for 16 days (yup, I'm counting) since my last roll...and if I don't exercise the Tart for lunch today, it may sit for another 16 days due to road conditions in NorCal that are not conducive to play time.

You may want to start a new thread as this matter is tangental to this particular thread topic; perhaps we can then better address this (worthwhile) tangent.

FWIW, sometimes I turn PSE off when utilizing Sport/SPASM when traveling under the radar...
