OK, let's fuel some paranoia.... why not, it is way fun...
The real evil is between your radiator and AC condensor (just another radiator). They are sandwiched and small bits of evil pass through one and get caught between them.
Here is what was behind my 2000 Boxster S radiators at around 190K miles..... ooooooo.... ah.......
Some of it was like a cement that I had to chip off.

Notice the debris and radiator you see is actually the 2nd radiator, the condensor is hanging in front but is difficult to see as it is on edge.

I have an attachment for my compressor that is designed for this. It is a 36" rod about 3/8" diameter that slides right in and keeps my rads clean. I put in the ZunSport grills four years ago and my condensers and radiators stay really clean. Last year I removed my bumper and replaced all three radiators and as soon as I get my car back I'll removed the bumper again and work on straightening out my condenser fins.
