997 vs GT4
would you consider moving away from your 997 to a GT4? looking at a GT4 and it looks real NICE. currently have a 6sp. 997.1 S that I love but the GT4 is calling me and I found a good one at a dealer. What do you all think of the change?

I can't help you with your dilemma other than to suggest you post this on the GT4 Forum. I think you might find more people there who made the switch (although they may or may not be a bit biased toward a GT4 compared to a 997.1). Best of luck deciding.

Was it ever said by anyone that the 997 is, perhaps, the best driver's car available, at any price? It's been said by many about the GT4.

If it were me, GT4....unless a GT3 was in consideration.
I've taken both the GT4 and GT3 around the 'ring and both are better than the 997...and 991.
But the choice is matter of preference....and a GT4 is an awesome car, but still not a 911.

For that price range ($90k-$100k), I'd be looking at a 2010-2011 lower mileage 997.2 turbo or a mint 997.2 GTS (and save $10k) before I'd get the GT4. Yes I know it is a special car, and will have the better long term resale, but because I'm a once, mayyyybe twice a year track guy, I wouldn't want to spend the premium to get a GT car (3 or 4). If I were going to track often? GT4 without question.

If tracking the car is not a priority and the OP gets a GT4, I would definitely recommend 18-way seats to the buckets, super cool as they look. And there will be more choices at better prices including 18 ways in the search.
No wrong choice here.

I considered adding a GT4 with the GTS but for a GT car the GT4 was lacking power to me. For the price I'd spend an extra $10k and get a 997.2 GT3. After coming to that conclusion I just kept the money for something else.

As the owner of a 997.2 C4S and a 987 Cayman S, I kept the 987 for two reasons, my wife has basically taken it over and hides the keys when she is not driving it and two, the Caymans are fantastic driving cars and great on the track, although the 987S is underpowered. I bought the 997.2 because it is a better cruiser than the 987, is not underpowered at all, and with the flip of two switches it magically transforms into a mean track car (which I haven't tried yet!).
Since the GT4 is not underpowered and is also a great cruiser, you have a tough choice. Test drive the GT4 a lot and if the delearship trusts you, or you can sneak it away, take it to the nearest track to shake it out.
ANother option is to keep the 997 and go with a great used 981 Cayman S which has much more power and cruise ability than the 987.

It depends entirely on what you intend to use the car for. I daily my GTS.. wherever I go, it goes.
If I had money to have a 90-100k strictly track car well I would be only interested in GT# cars. A GT4 would not work quite as well for daily purposes. For the same money though, if I were looking at a strictly track car I would just get a GT3, and not a GT4.. most likely.
But to answer the question directly, no I would not swap out my GTS for a GT4

I like the GT4, but I wouldn't want one as a daily driver or as a weekend toy for the street. If I regularly participated in track events, then the GT4 would be very tempting.

GT4 would be a fine third sports car for me -- if i wanted a near dedicated track car. No way I'd give up a hi-po 911 for one as a primary fun car (especially for street use). And, as mentioned above, if I was looking for a track car, I'd spend the extra $10k too and get a 997.2 GT3. GT4 seems great for people with several track cars, and for whom that's a big part of their lifestyle. Better comparison probably would've been new GT4 vs 997.1/997.2 GT3.
FWIW, 997.1 (non-GT3) versus GT4? I'd sell the 997.1 and go 997.2 C2S/GTS/GT3, for similar money to a new GT4.

In a heartbeat, unless your 997 is a GT3. The 981 feels and out-handled the 997. I haven't driven the GT4 but since the regular 981 is already better than a 997, it's a no brainer. The only reason you would get a 997 over a GT4 is for the back seats, it's obviously not a concern since you are considering it. GTx cars today isn't like it used to be, the 991 GT3 and GT4 has softer suspension and clutch (no clutch on the GT3), it's more quiet than before, a lot of people daily it.
