Default Reset service light

I need to reset the service indicator on my 997.1. I've done the searching on this forum and I can't find a conclusive answer as to whether there is a 100% reliable device I can buy other than a Durametric to reset the light. Most of the threads devolve into side questions/answers/statemetns that have nothing to do with resetting the indicator. I've got one of the Bluetooth OBD2 readers that use the app Torque and that won't do it.

Can anyone point me to an inexpensive device that will let me do this? is there anything from Harbor Freight I can get?

Thanks!

So after much searching it looks like this is the only other device besides a Durametric that can clear the service light.

iCarsoft POR II PORSCHE Oil Service Reset & Multi System Diagnostic Tool

I wish I could find something less expensive to perform such a basic task but thems the breaks.

The Chinese durametric knock offs are $40 on eBay but then it's a question of morals.

Thanks for sharing your advice and wisdom. I have the budget to buy a Durametric but spending $350 to only use the light reset feature does not constitute good value for me. Neither of my Mercedes require a diagnostic tool to reset the service indicator.

Try going on-line to your PCA local chapter.... shoot an email to one of the officers. Someone will do it for you. I've done it for a bunch of folks in the Philly area with my Durametric.

Otherwise, search "Durametric alternative" or others like that. There are plenty of threads with discussions of cheap alternatives for reminder resets.

Peace

Thanks Bruce for the helpful response.

I'm going to go the cheap Chinese route and see if it works. If not I guess I'll probably sell my Porsche and both Benz's and walk on over to the Chevrolet dealership and see what's new for 2016 in a Malibu.

Way to go everyone. Because of this thread I just ordered a Launch x431R from Newegg. Total cost was $45. BTW, it will only work on model year 2007 and greater.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered one. For $45 it's worth a try. Here is the Newegg link.

So it won't work on 2005 or 2006?
