my first 911

I just changed the oil and air filter on my 08 997s. I'm guessing that I need the Durametric system to reset the service warning light but I'm not 100% sure. Do the dealers typically charge a fee to reset it.

yes a durametric will do it. if you have a good rapport with a stealership or indy, they might do it for free. it literally takes 30 seconds.

Just note that Durametric will not allow you to reset the service reminder to what you would want to: when the next service is due. All you can do with Durametric is reset the service reminder to a single fixed quantity: for a 997.2 that is 2 yrs/20k miles. Which will be much longer than the time to your next service.

Just had my dealer reset for free but he made it sound like he was giving me a free 30K tune up. 30 seconds is a bit too optimistic. My reset took two minutes.

Minok......do you know if it will reset my 997.1 to 10,000k and 1 year which is what is required for my model......anyone in Columbus Ohio with a cable wanting to help a brother out!! USMC, you are the king of DIY.... How do you deal with this.

I bought the durametric for this. It was worth the money to have control over resetting. It was paid for after my first DIY oil change. The durametric will only work on maximum 3 Porsche vehicles so if someone were to let you borrow it that would knock 1 off of their limit. Unless they are planning never to buy another Porsche then you may not find a taker to lend you the durametric.

Dave, get yourself a DM Enthusiast or Pro tool. Better yet find a buddy to split the cost of the Pro tool... that way you have unlimited vehicle usage and coding. That's what I would do if I new someone in Austin who would split the cost with me... for now I own the DM Enthusiast tool. I don't worry nor pay much attention to the mileage/time reset period as I'm off schedule. I rely on pen, log book, and receipts to track my maintenance. For example, I change my oil every/3k miles or 4-5 months whichever comes 1st. Doesn't align with the Porsche schedule as I tend to replace/change fluids and parts more frequently then their minimum schedule.

I assume from the LED tails in your profile picture that your turbo is a 997.2? Has anyone else used this? It is the first I have heard that something else aside from Durametric can reset the oil change light. If it works, it seems like a no brainer for .2 cars since Durametric's usefulness for these newer cars is greatly restricted, it is cheaper than the Durametric, and it can be used on an unlimited number of cars.

My thoughts exactly - that's why I got it. Yes, mine is a .2. I also have other cars(Mercedes, BMW, and GMC) and this works pretty much on any vehicle with an OBD port.

You can only reset to 10k miles with it though but I hear durametric is the same

Edit: I assume that when you reset it goes back to the factory 10k miles OR one year? I always hit the year before the mileage which is why I ask.
