Um yeah no thank you. The pshop I'm talking about is all over this forum on the south shore of long island and i'm sure you can figure it out who. He has ads saying he is a l&n engineering ims repair facility, yet when I asked him if he were using an ln bearing he said he had a falling out with them. I know people speak highly of this guy but I spent the day today speaking with a couple of other pshops and they said i'd be crazy to touch it.
The guy who wanted to do it is no doubt qualified but definitely tried to use some scare tactics to make me move forward. This guy didn't need my money which was probably the reason he didn't care if he lost me as a customer by trying to sell me something I didn't need for 5k...a little frustrating.

Recommendations? Sure: Drive it often, long, with revs up as it was meant to be driven. Switch to Motul XCess 5-40 and change oil 2x year. Wait to see 200 deg oil temp before you get on it. On those REALLY cold NY winter mornings read EVO mag till the temps rise a bit (optional?). Put the warranty payments on a 10 yo car in the bank. Mostly relax and enjoy your car. Cheers

I was a worry wart with my previous 2000 996 and had the IMS/RMS replaced during a clutch replacement. With my 2006 997, I don't worry at all, just drive it with huge grin on my face. Don't worry, be happy.

Message board communication is hard, don't be overly sensitive. Response had more to do w nature of these boards than you.
Having said that it is possible to overdue the doom and gloom stuff when you are new. Gets tiring after a while. Go have fun with your car and post some pretty pictures. Everyone will love you

BTW, I think you've made your decision but if not, my advice is to leave well enough alone.
My most expensive automotive repairs almost always started out with me doing or having done some "preventive" maintenance. The old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." applies here.
