A big part of insurance costs today are medical. These cars are so well designed to protect the occupants that medical costs are neglible. Thus, we benefit from how safe these cars are built.

JayRace,
I took my car to the same shop as Porsche of South Bay used and Leland West Insurance had no problem with it! You can take your car anywhere you want it to be repaired. There where no stipulations as to which automotive collision repair facilities I had to use. Also when I found the out about the amount of repairs needed it was "I" that asked Leland Insurance if it could be totaled. Leland handed it over to another depart for the total loss evaluation as it was another departments determination and decision. In California it's a formulation of which they use to determine the value. If it meets that criteria they'll total the vehicle. My did thankfully!
Another commented was that agreed value has a mileage stipulation. However it's all negotiable with agreed value insurance companies. You can have agreed value insurance and still drive the car daily by simply agreeing to the mileage in your contract. They don't care.
I wouldn't own a Porsche without agreed value insurance they way the insurance companies have you over a barrel these days. It saved me, and allowed me to go from driving from a 2001 911 996 C4 with 86,000 miles on it to my 2012 911 991.1 7MT CPO car with 21,000 miles.
from this to this...
to this thanks to agreed value..

With three daughters at home, (24, 21 and 18) I have been getting a separate policy for just the wife and I on the 911. Saves quite a bit however this past year it has been difficult.
Last year I had two policies with the Lizard - one for all the family cars and one for the 911 however Geico refused to renew the separate policy - all the cars had to be on the same policy. Amica also would not write a separate policy - all the cars or none. Was able to get Progressive to write a policy just on the 911 but suspect it could be problematic going forward. I am paying about $1100 per year now but would have more than doubled by adding the daughters.

What do you mean agreed value allowed you to go from a 80k mile 996 to a 997.1? So the agreed value was higher than the value of the car? You you’re paying higher rates on the off chance an unlikely event happens?
