Default Road trip ... Yellowstone

I've been asked to move this from RLOT to here, so here it goes ...

Pam and I are wandering with friends around the West. This trip was to include several Porsches and an F Type S Jag, but circumstances truncated us to a single 997.2 C4S with the Jag and a rental Camaro SS (a friend who flew in from Florida).

The plan is 9 days and about 3500 miles. Starting point ... the SF Bay Area.

Day 1 took us through Yosemite and on to Vegas via some very interesting easterly roads. We ended in Vegas.

Day 2 included Valley of Fire, Zion, Bryce, and an absolutely incredible drive to Morrey.

Day 3 got us to Pinedale and Day 4 landed in Cody.

Day 4 got us to Chief Joseph, the 212, and Yellowstone.

Day 5 was a great day through back roads and rivers in Montana.

We are calling shots along the way so while we have a basic concept of the route, nothing is definite.

Photos tell the story, but for you photographers, be warned ... many shots are taken on a mobile phone, most from a ProClip mount that takes half dash and half limited forward view through the bug riddled windshield. Editing out the dash was done on the same phone. Photo selection was from thumbnails that are too small to verify correct selection. And the phone app does not list the photos chronologically further confusing the issue.

But we'll do what we can ...

Here are the daily totals so far. I will attach photos after dinner.

Pics, in random order because that's how the phone interface works.

Note the absence of other cars ...

Fabulous! 997s are great cars for road trips, especially out West. Well done!

Love the 77MPH, 77777 miles and a perfect 37/43PSI tire pressure balance.

Thanks for posting! I, too, watch my mileage milestones, matching mph to thousands of miles. I haven't been able to do it legally in the USA in awhile!

Great photos and really gets my anticipation going for my planned trip from TN to the Cody are in my 997.2 come August. I am very familiar with the WY/MT area from over 25 years of fly fishing trips there. I have never done the trip with the P car, but this is the year.

Wayne, tell the truth! You took this trip just to get the 77777 @ 77mph!

Looks like a great trip!

Great looking trip! In that amazing photo of the waterfall what is that pole looking thing on the other side of the river? It's like - what doesn't fit in this photo? Could just be a really straight tree trunk.

When you catch your breath, please post a few of the road sections that you feel were the most special.

Something tells me this is just a 1st journey there for you...

PS more pics please!

Jumping in here: methinks that the item which you do not think belongs in the image is, in fact, most appropriate and just about perfectly situated in the frame. I suspect it is a part of Wayne's composition. (He usually puts his feet/flops in the frame as he likes to perch himself right on the edge, so nice work here Smith, I don't see them in this shot!)

As you must see, it is a well-thrashed pine tree which was deposited there sometime ago by one form of erosion or the other.

I think that it fits perfectly.

In places like this, gravity, sun, darkness, snow, ice and water are the artists of the natural landscape -- it doesn't need our help (to be manicured?).

Wayne: is that the falls on the Gardner River just up the hill traveling south out of of Mammoth Hot Springs, WY (heading towards the high country, geysers and West Yellowstone)?!

Some great shots (considering the rig/application!). Looking forward to seeing many more images from a real camera (hint hint)
