Time to make the move
Looking at the OZ Leggera HLT with Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for my stock 2009 C4S (factory sizes / 19 inch). Good combination for the track? Any better suggestions based on people's experiences? The rims seem to be high quality and a decent price when compared to other makes out there. Are they strong enough to stand up to track use? Thanks for any comments!

Big question that needs answering... Are these dedicated track wheels or will they be your only wheel (street and track)?

Dedicated...I will keep the originals (running SuperSports) for the street. And good second question. This won't be my first time at the track (and I agree that if one is just starting, then running the street tires is more than sufficient). Looking to get a bit more grip.
18 inch might be an option as well...looks like there are more tire sizes/choices?

OZ are good then. Go 18... You have more tire choices. Not that you need them... Because NT01

In regard to 18" sizes, I'm only aware of two choices of streetable r-comp tires available in 245/40-18 front and 305/35-18 rear. The two choices are Nitto Nt01 and Toyo R888. Please let me know if there are any other choices that I'm not aware of. I run these specific sizes because they're very similar to factory front-to-rear tire heights which is what the ABS system is programmed for. I hope Nitto won't stop production on these sizes like they did 2 year ago... Which brings me to considering 19" sizes since there are more streetable r-comps choices available now; Nitto NT01, Toyo R888, Pilot Cup2, Pirelli Corsa System & Trofeo R, Dunlop Sport Maxx. And my guess is when the latest and greatest tire technologies are released they'll be more readily available in 19"+ sizes. For now, I continue to enjoy my 18" sizes.

Nitto NT-01 comes in 19in size to fit 997-2 - that's what I run, and think they are great. I also use OZ Ultraleggera HLT for the track and have found them to be quite nice as well. I like the HLT aspect too.

First job is to run five bolts on your wheels.
Get rid of that pesky wheel lock and key.
Way faster to check the torque settings of your wheels between lapping sessions.

oz well known as strong, good value option... japanese volks/rays are excellent too... tough and proven
as for tires, agree w NT01... Hkk RS3 good too, v good value, excellent grip, near NT01 unless you're quite advanced

I used to run 18's but have since switched to 19's so I can run cup 2's. With 18's you really only have a choice between Toyo R888's or Nitto NT01's and the compound is actually the same I believe. I've run both R888's and NT01's on 18's and they last quite a long time for a 100 treadwear tire, both provide around 1.2-1.3G of lateral grip in the corners and braking. They're pretty noisy though, but that's not really a concern for track tires. That said, they are old tire tech and it shows. Most modern ultra street tires in the 200 treadwear rating actually give more grip, although may fall off after a few laps whereas the NT01/R888 will be relatively consistent. RS3's, AD08R's, etc. will give you 1.3-1.4 G's of lateral grip when fresh and will drop off to around 1.2 or so after being heat cycled.
That said, you need 19's to run those, as well as cup 2's, which are on a whole new level since it's a relatively new tire. Can see lateral G's north of 1.4 when fresh. They're more expensive though, but imo worth it. If you have classing issues to worry about as well, the NT01/R888 is probably one of the worst choices you can make since it's considered an R-comp but generates nowhere near as much grip as the current line of R-comps such as Trofeo R's or Hankook TD's.
So for a DE tire where you want consistent laps and aren't going for time, the NT01/R888 is a good choice. If you are concerned with times and classing, then go with either the cup 2 or RS3/AD08R or even wait for the RE71R when 305 sizing becomes available.

^^^^^ Ccw best wheel going....Nitto NT01 245/40/18 fronts and 305/35/18 rears are same overall diameter as stock 19" but a much better size for performance track driving.
Nitto NT01 is THE BEST track tire that you can drive to and from the track on...by far
