I paid way too much for my 997.1, but I wanted an extremely well optioned car.
If you can afford it I wouldn't sweat the "market", it's more about finding the car you want and feeling comfortable that the price works for you.

I paid more than kbb for my car when I bought it too. I searched for all 911s basically east of the Mississippi in the color and with the options I wanted. When I found the exact car I was looking for, I bought it. Yes, buyer's remorse kicked in later, when I realized I probably overpaid by $2k-$4k, but I was treated well on my trade so I think it all worked out in the end.

KBB is just one factor in determining a cars value. To get the real value you have to look at what other cars are priced at within a specific geographic area. Then you need to get a PPI. After that you will know if its priced correctly.

KBB has been low for the 997 for a while. Cargurus.com gives you an estimate based on asking prices, miles, and a few key options, and it seems to be a more accurate approximation of value than KBB. It is still flawed though.
If you spend a ton of time, you'll know the market. If you don't, you'll save a ton of time, and that might be worth leaving a bit of money on the table to you. Good luck on the search!

997 production is higher than what?
997.2 production level is extremely low...

I'm wondering though if the reduced production numbers in the following years was also due to decrease demand?

FWIW KBB values on my 997.2 have swung up 8k then back down 8k in 6 months, the market has been much more stable than that. I'm not thinking about selling, but I'm a big nerd and love to track values of things.

My 2007 Carrera S (Tiptronic, Meteor Grey, Bose High End/Nav, Sport Seats, Premium Wheels) is listed on KBB for $35K and I purchased the vehicle from a dealership for $37K.
I think dealerships try to stay closer to KBB in order to compete with other dealerships but they up charge a bit to cover business cost. I also dropped $2,700 into addressing maintenance items.

Hi. I bought 2010 c2s 35k miles cpo fully loaded black on black for 57k. Also seemed like a good deal. I looked at many cars private sale, dealer etc. Online reference for pricing for almost always off by 5-7k

I just picked up a '06 C4S Coupe, well optioned, Bose, nav, chrono, sports seats, leather everything, with 67k and a second set or winter wheels and tires for $40k. About $2k over KBB. I don't think I got a screaming deal, but I think I got a very fair deal for such a clean car.
