Is red "too much"?

I've had black on black for over 10 years now and have been thinking that Guards Red with aero package is the way I want to go on my next one, but I can hardly find them. The ones that I do see are priced in the stratosphere.

I also was not looking for a red 911 but had to have it when I saw mine used at the dealer. It's one of those purchases I'm so happy I made every time I see it. It's such a classic color. I get the giddy feeling when I walk up to it like when I was a kid walking up to a cool car. I even make the stupid engine sound with my mouth while air-shifting with my right hand.

My first Porsche (996) was Guards Red. Loved the color plus it had Guards Red accents throughout the interior. I now have a 997.2 Black Edition. Love the car, but I miss the GR.

I'm 72. Drove a Speed Yellow 996GT3 for 10 years. Didn't care what others thought. When it was time to move on, I was looking for a GR GTS. Couldn't find one optioned as I wanted, so, "settled" for a black one. Wish I had a red one.

So I'm an old(er) guy, and I hate to be self conscious about stereo types that might apply to me, but I am. Looking for my perfect 997.2 C2/4 S cabrio. Focusing on more subdued colors like grey, black. Avoiding the "look at me" colors of white or red- although I like them. I want a Porsche for how it makes me feel, but not to get reactions from others. Is red a color that goes too far? I like it. There! I said it.
When people commented on the red -- not many did -- I said I bought the car at night and thought everything was brown.
Really if you don't want to be noticed get a Camry.
Otherwise, go big or go home. Get the red car if that is the best example you can find/afford.

Not at all. If you like it, go for it. 911's to me, are all about making them your own.
If it's a daily commuter, it might get to you, but if not, then It'll be that much more enjoyable. Be bold.

I hope fellow RL member Destro doesn't mind my posting his photos here. Whenever discussion of red 997s comes up, one car comes to mind right away. If ever there was one car that could represent GR properly, it might be this one:

My first 997.2 was Guards and it was gorgeous. If you end up, or already have, spending a good amount of time shopping / researching .2s you're going to find the vast majority are some variant of grey / silver / black or white. IMHO if you like it and the car's solid, grab it. Good luck with your search.
