Default Back Country Roads

Love the early morning weekend drives down by the Minnesota river valley. Screw the license plate into the tow hook hole and go carve some back country roads. Scenic highways, single lane county roads with nothing but farms in every direction, plenty of curves going up and down the watershed areas, and often being lucky enough to see some bald eagles. Plenty of places to really open it up too without any other drivers around for miles.

The drawback? Bugs. And this time a bird strike. Just the wire mesh is bent covering the center radiator. You can see some feathers in there too. It's easily straighten out but does require the front bumper to be removed. Maybe I'll fix it tomorrow after returning from another morning drive.

At least the bird's last image was a Porsche!

Sounds like a great drive! There is likely no better way for a bird to go.

I've seen worse, but it was before the days when everyone had a camera in their pocket. My little sister had borrowed my mothers 944, when she came home there was a whole on the middle of the winshield where the mirror had been, blood streaked all the way down the back window, and the car was full of feathers and... bird parts.

The punchline to the otherwise morbid story is: When asked how fast she was going she said "50 or so..." This actually brought a laugh out of my father who called BS and had a good time grilling her over it.

At least you didn't have to clean the inside of the car.

I don't know the back roads of Minnesota very well, but I do like the ones around the Eagle Center in Wabasha.

As for the bugs, this product works pretty well:

I use this as well on road trips and I'll second its effectiveness on bugs. Not sure about birds

I have full clear bra so it's not too hard to remove the bugs. The stuff is really amazing at keeping the front bumper and hood looking like new.

Bumper removed and sitting on the folding table

Backside view of the corner vent. These mesh covers really stop the crap from hitting the radiators, even dead bird feathers

Backside view after cleaning up the junk, flattening out the center mesh, and reinstalling

And reinstalled. The front end is still on jack stands so the gap to the floor is huge

LOL. I thought I was the only one whose 911 attracted birds. I head butted a turkey about a month ago and ran over a little red bird who didn't move fast enough. Good to set your 911 getting used...T
