997.2 PDK alcantara paddle wheel swap
Howdy all - this is a mod I've been meaning to do for some while now, and I finally did it!
Since I've had the car (almost a year) I never really did enjoy the stock PDK wheel. While on Thunderhill, I palm shifted up mid-corner for example - not good.
As I have a stone grey interior I was planning to order a leather stone grey wheel from suncoast. Soze (thanks!) sent me the link from the classified section for an alcantara wheel for sale by Shadow993, which I promptly jumped on.
I followed this DIY (
) and it was a doddle. The trickiest part was unlatching the airbag, but once I played around with the unlocking mechanism with the new wheel, I could see how it was supposed to unlock the airbag and it just popped out.
I've an '09 so I'm still researching if I can get the 'sport' button to light up, but either way I'm really pleased with the wheel - the paddle action is so much nicer than the standard buttons.
Either way, the main reason for sharing this was in case other owners with non-black interiors were wondering how the alcantara might contract with other interior colors. It seems to work quite well with stone grey.
