Upgrading to 991!

Enjoy the upgrade bro, ignore the haters. If they really cared about being loyal to a drivers car they would buy one that doesn't require water. I'm on the fence about adding a 997 or go straight to 991 to the garage. Prices for a 997.2 or 991 base are getting closer everyday, but I'm still to cheap to lay out the extra dough for not that much more go.

I don't see too many people going to a 991 and coming back, there's less than a handful of them and everyone keeps talking about those few.

Well I guess I didn't know all the facts. I'm glad you're felling better. I think all the generations of the 911 are amazing cars and all have a different place in history which is being written as we speak. I prefer for everyone to get along on here but understand sometimes buttons get pushed.
I still maintain that 991's configured as a cabriolet in silver look like bloated VW whale $hit though

Congrats! The 991 is a brilliant car. I'm looking at getting one as well. Wife wants something a bit more comfortable that she can drive and I don't mind the added performance. It's a win win. Plus I still have the 67 912 for the old school feel.

I didn't intend to start a discussion about 997 vs 991. I am the biggest 997 fan out there. I talk about my car every day to anyone who will listen. It's an amazing machine and a true purists car with enough modern technology and comfort to be a daily driver. But I also would like Bluetooth, built in navigation, a redesigned cabin and all the other improvements that come with the 991 (improvements to me, downgrades to others). So for me the 991 is an upgrade in creature comforts, a big upgrade. If I could afford both I would keep the 997. No doubt it's more of a "driver's car." But alas I can't so I am opting to sacrifice some of the visceral connection with the car for these creature comforts. So crucify me. We all drive what we love. Don't fault me for wanting more modern technology, a car with and updated engine, pdk vs my current manual (let the continued flaming begin!). I love every iteration of the Porsche and would own a model of each if I could.
So respect the brand and respect the drivers. We are all a brotherhood obsessed with our cars and the club you become a part of by owning one. Me wanting to move to a 991 isn't about me ragging on a 997, it's about doing what I want to do, and driving what I want to drive. I love the 997. And always will. Greatest car I've ever owned. By far. And I'll also love the the old 911sc, the 993...and now the 991. And I'm sure every other Porsche that comes after it. I hope the 991 becomes the greatest car I've ever owned, until I find a different 911 that takes its place. Drive what you love and love what you drive. Motor on.

I like hydraulic steering, I like being able to see my beautiful flat 6 engine after I detail it, I love the width and length of my 997, I love the rear end squirelliness when driven hard AND mastered, and I love the classic shaped lights. Finally, I think the interior is as classic as you can get (shifter in similar place, very clean dash with no wart, center consol not huge).
All of that said; I think the 991 certainly appeals more to luxury me. But the 997 to me doesn't feel "cheap" on the interior (like a 996 ooooo lol), it feels Spartan. It feels utilitarian and race-car like while still providing me with blootooth calling and other amenities.
So the 991 certainly is an upgrade. However, if you don't seek more luxury, I'd argue the experience might be better for you in a 997.

Success is earned...those that present the one finger salute will always hate success.
Go and enjoy that 991, you can do it!
Congratulations!

And I keep thinking of one day upgrading to a 993. Gotta go where your heart takes you. I'm sure the 991 will be awesome in it's own way too.

I will consider moving to a 991 (C4S with Power kit) and might surprise myself making the jump if the right car presents itself. I enjoy the 997 and there is no special reason nor pressure to change other than my extended warranty expiring in 2018. Even with that said, I have $25K+ socked away to pay Jake Raby when my motor goes south.
To the OP, best of luck with your new ride.
