997 muffler options
I'm torn. I could get a Dansk Super Sound muffler but don't know if it's too loud for longer trips. The 997.1 is stock now and way too silent (where my e92 m3 was just right after very common diy muffler mod).
Is there other good muffler options? No drone but more sound please .
Carnewal GT? I heard that the 997 version of it can't compete with the 987 one.

Many modify their standard OEM mufflers to sound like the OEM Sport Exhaust in always on mode. You put a small bypass pipe between the inlet and outlets of each L/R muffler. Do a search on Gundo and FisterD mufflers. It's very inexpensive to do and sounds great, no drone at all. Not too loud when pressing softly on the throttle but opens up amazingly in the higher RPM region. Pair this with some high flow cats and better headers for a really nice combo.
There are vendors offering full setups too like Sharkwerks or Fabspeed.

If you don't listen to an exhaust setup in person, your research will have been in vain.
I have heard beast-mode setups sound lame in an on-line video, and I have heard tame, basic, 750 dollar cat-backs sound insanely good. All of this sucks.
You need to get out and get to places where people with different setups can show off their setups.

Sigh.... This is probably the most beaten to death topic out there on this forum.
I've just done ALL the research it feels like (though surely I've only scratched the surface), and while I HATE people who offer nothing but this, I have to say it: "search" is your friend.
BUT, I will try to revisit this thread tomorrow, and let you know what I think when I pick up my car from my indie, who has just installed my Fister side mufflers and Sharkwerks center-bypass.
Absolutely CORRECT. And also, for the vast majority of us, simply not realistic. At some point, you're going to have to roll the dice. By all means, listen to what you can, do your research, but ultimately, try something, see how you like it. That said, I don't know where you are, OP, but next week there is a huge Porsche gathering in Hershey, PA. That, or something like it if there is ever something like it near you, is your best bet to have a lot of different exhausts in one place. Not your average Cars & Coffee.
Good luck.

I don't have much to add other than I also came from an e92 m3 - and had installed an Eisenman Black series exhuast and loved it. Stock on the 997 is waaaay to quiet...but I haven't settled on what I want to do just yet. I'd love to pick up an IPE exhuast, but cannot justify the $$$$$

i have fister and love it. Especially at start up. Is here a mod that I could do that adds just little more (like on start up for first minute) like 10-20% more but isn't a crazy amount of work or money? 997.1

So... Got the car back. Had to pick up yesterday, which, in what can only be described as absurd, turned out to be a full-on rain and snow storm. UNBELIEVABLE. The day I'm supposed to get a car back that's just been lowered, exhaust modified, and summer wheels back on. Anyway... Took some video which RL won't let me post here (I'll try again... All of 49 seconds of iPad video...telling me it's too large).
All I can say is Fister side mufflers + Sharwerks center bypass on my non-PSE car = HOLY SH*T THAT COLD START SOUND IS INCREDIBLE...
Have to get used to it a bit at speed, it's not "too" loud, but it's a bit higher pitched than I though, especially between 2k-3k rpm. Haven't been able to go WOT yet to see what that's like.

I have Borla. 997.1 06 C4. Thinking Tubi pre-owned, or Fabspeed. Do I want the xpipe with sport cats first, see how that goes with my Borlas, or skip the change in tone from Tubi and just install xpipe and sport cats? I'm also into the Fabspeed sport ehaust too. Lotta money for a sound tone change.
I'm not sold on IPD/GT3 throttle body Etc.
