Default Lamin-X Headlight Tint on my 997!

Hey Rennlisters,

I originally had Lamin-X clear protection on my headlights, DRL, and side markers, but replaced them with the tinted film today. Here are some pictures. I wasn't sure about the look at first, but it's growing on me.

looks good, would love to see a similar car next to it to compare. I did a similar thing in 2003 on my Z, and liked the subtle results.

Where did you get these?

Sorry, for some reason I can't upload pictures directly. But here's a pic of my car before and after. The lighting is a bit different, but this should do. Overall, I hear the Lamin-X blocks around ~12% of light. It does a great job dulling out the chrome finish. I purchased this on Amazon for $65 or so with shipping.

It looks really good imho, particularly with the gray car and black wheels.

So, how did the process go installing the film? On (much) earlier threads, some recommended buying the sheets rather than the pre-cut as the pre-cut was considered difficult to position.

I actually recommend you buy the pre-cut kit. The last thing you want to do is have to cut out the entire sheet and damage the headlight with the razor blade. The pre-cut kit fits extremely well.

As far as the install goes, it does require some trial and error. It isn't terribly hard to get the film to look good enough. However, I think it's hard to get perfect results without practice. It's helpful to have someone help you out as you squeegee the film out from the center. Any water trapped under the film will eventually evaporate. Some air bubbles will, but for larger ones, you can use a needle to puncture them. Overall, a great mod for $65.

I saw on another thread you just ordered yours? I did the same and installed it this past Saturday. Took about 2 hours at a leisurely pace. The pre-cuts actually fit pretty well. They provide you with a blade and squeegee.

My only gripe is a small one, the headlight cover section doesn't fit the entire headlight. You'll have to decide if you want the small gaps at the bottom or top of the headlight. That part takes a little bit more time to align right. Granted you can't tell unless you look extremely close, but to me I just know it's not a "perfect" fit.

Other than that, I can't complain. For $65 bucks though it sure beats the hell out of the price for Xpell film and paying for install.

Does anyone make a black vinyl ring for the perimeter of the headlight?

I've never been a fan on those. I think they look tacky.

DC, you mentioned in your opening post that you weren't sure about the look of the tinted film, but that it is growing on you. Can you elaborate on this? Also, can you provide some additional pics?
I also have a meteor gray car and I am interested in subduing the bright silver headlights.

Yes. Kistudios. I bought a set. While they are quality pieces I didn't like the look and actually tore one a bit while installing (not enough lubricant on my part). So I don't have them installed anymore.
They were much cheaper then too:

I've been very busy tending to some family affairs. Bought a kit for my GTS last April, and only now getting around to installing it. Started with the side markers, and they don't fit. The issue is on the back end of the marker (circled). The film does not cover the upper right corner at all, probably, about an inch lower, anD it reaches well beyond the end of the marker.

Anyone else have this issue? Did you just cut the film at the edge where the marker dips down at that end? Did I get a wrong part? (I have just contacted Lamin-X, so, haven't heard back from the yet.)
