Default Anyone else think the instrument cluster is too dim?

I raised the illumination to the max and it still seems quite dim. I have the plain black cluster, not the white ones from the Carrera S, so I thought the lights would look a bit more bright.

Is there anyway to make it just a tad brighter? I had a 2000 audi a4 long long time ago and the A4 would still be brighter than my 997.2. I just find the overall lighting to very dark. Is this a porsche thing? How are the 991s?

Cheers,

J

I thought the same when I first bought the car but I got used to it. Dimmer lights will fatigue your eyes less so that's how I justify it.

Hmmm don't know if it matters but white face gauges and it looks plenty bright to me. I don't think there would be any difference in light intensity would there be?

Somewhat off topic: my Saab had a button that would kill all the cluster lights except for the speedo. It reduced eye fatigue on long night drives. Very cool.

Funny, I actually feel the opposite way. I feel that the cluster lights don't dim enough.

I've got them turned all the way down and I wish that they went lower.

Driving at night accelerates the depreciation curve. It is dim because you are supposed to avoid night driving.

Too dim.

There are times when it's not a long, dark, eye-fatigue drive and I just want the damn dash lights brighter.

Dusk... early evening.... short trips before eyes fully adjust... early morning before sunrise: Too dim.

( S - white dials )

.

I find the gauge lights to be fine. However, the digital screen is unreadable in certain daylight situations.

Too dim and illumination is slow. I'd rather have black gauges as well.

You can buy any number of anti-sun-glare screen protectors and cut them down for the nav- screen. The best ones have a micro bumpy surface, (can’t really see it or feel it) this scatters the sun’s glare in multiple directions keeping a reflection from hitting your eyes. They work perfectly with touch screens. NuShield makes one like this; I’ve never tried it though, so I don’t know what it’s like.

Years ago a friend made me one for the screen in my convertible. He took the equivalent of something like 2000 grit paper and made one swipe from side to side and one swipe from top to bottom on a clear screen protector. This created a satin finish. The screen was still bright and clear, but also perfectly readable in any sun condition.
