Weird. They are universally accepted in karting as long as it has a recent DOT rating. Fontana also allows them for track days cars.
Typically a moto helmet provides MORE protection and not less protection. So that's a little odd.

Motorcycle helmets aren't tested smacking against a roll bar or have to provide fireproof protection.
See in a motorcycle you are tossed from the vehicle and free from the flames.
