Hey I've been on that road on the way to Borrego springs. It would have been perfect. Seriously the car has a variety of sensors and software that will manage the power to keep within the design limits of the drive train. All modern high performance cars do. It's ok you won't hurt it. Might even be good for it.

Yeah, I didn't mean to start a war about power numbers. Even if my weight savings and bolt on modifications added 0hp or power, the point I wanted to focus on is whether or not people have used the launch control feature. I have not drag raced this car and do not plan to (I use to go to the drag strip with other cars from time to time) so I really don't care about the times I'm "putting down" but was using the 3.9sec 0-60 claimed on the 997.2 S as sort of a reference point.

For a car with not a lot of torque (relative to other cars I've owned) this thing sure seems to get up to speed quickly, and that's even without using LC.

So you're not going to use the lauch control feature because you're afraid of it blowing up like everyone else here.

Default According to the manual

Verbatim:

"Stress on components increases dramatically when starting with maximum acceleration in comparison to normal driving off. Use of Launch Control will inevitably reduce the life of the engaged engine and transmission components."

I think I'll wait to try until I decide to trade it.

I think it also says that to maximize engine life, park car in garage and flush the key down the toilet...

Hi, I never used lunch control on my 997 turbo II.
Frankly speaking never thought of it.

You guys might find this Road and Track article and video interesting then. 50 back-to-back launches of a 991 Turbo S... although the guy ended up accidentally doing 61 because he got woozy and lost count. Admittedly, I wouldn't do this either and I'm not scared of the occasional launch.

I haven't tried it yet because.... I'm scared.

Not because of crazy power or anything, but I don't like that there is no visual confirmation that you are in "launch control mode" before flooring the gas pedal.. I have nightmares of just sending it straight to the rev limiter because I didn't do something right to engage LC.

And oddly enough, I've never really been worried about bouncing off the rev limiters in cars other than the 997.2 - likely my concern has been driven by all this focus on the forums on DME over-rev reports and the such. As far as I've always been viewed it, with a rev limiter the only way to break the motor from over-revs is a Money$hift, which shouldn't be possible with a PDK!

So the moral of the story is that I should overcome my fears and launch the f%^&*k out of this car! (at least once)

After 7 months of ownership I finally used launch control. Car was nice and warm and I found a good spot on an open straight back road. The instant acceleration was brutal. After a few seconds I thought well that's not really fast until I looked down and was passing 93mph. It really got there qyickly. The power delivery was so smooth and constant. Never felt like it was stressing the car.
