997.2 PDK Repair
Hi,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a company who would open up and inspect a 997.2 PDK gearbox in the UK?
I have called numerous Porsche and general gearbox specialists who all say they do not touch the PDK gearbox.
Regards
Joseph

Have not heard of anyone here in the US repairing the PDK. All issues have resulted in replacement only, dealer or indie.
I know the pan can be removed, but uncertain how much visibility that would give you.

How common is this? I was going to add a PDK 997 to the stable but i'm starting to think that would be a mistake - especially considering I would keep it for 10+ years and some track duty.
And just like GI Ramos said - I have never heard of a shop or Porsche dealer repairing a PDK trans here in the USA - only replacing the entire unit!

It sounds to me like you've already taken all the steps needed to be certain. From this point on the situation is like this- nobody but nobody will open and check like you're asking. (The only people who might, won't know what they're doing- i.e. you'll be even worse off.) Even if someone did open it and check and get it right and not set you up for further damage, it still wouldn't make any sense. Why? Because either way- inspect or no inspect- nobody will repair PDK. If its damaged, either already or becomes damaged later, does not really matter. You will be looking at replacing it either way.
Keep your money. Drive the car. It sounds like the PDK will be fine.
Sorry, but until they start training and allowing others to work on PDK that's just the way it is.
If anyone knows otherwise I'm sure this will only accelerate their posting!

From the way it looks the damage should only be in the final drive if ever. Pdk shifting module and clutch should be intact. If you can get things together again there shouldn't be any worries. Just change the transmission gear oil after driving a bit and you should be good to go. But someone said go for total and buy a new car! You won't have peace of mind driving that hing fast.

My only trouble is I can see the inner shaft double rubber sealing ring is damaged. The ring is a double ring. Half came out the box with the shaft m. The other half is still in its place looking a litre torn.
I have a new ring, Porsche sell them for $15. I have no idea how to get it in. For the old cars they used to sell a special tool.
I stripped all the old broken suspension today and was able to get closer to see inside the gearbox. Using a torch I could see a metal scuff mark on the edge but no real damage.
It's seems a shame to let the car go over a seal.
The car has been totalled by the insurance. I have had it since new and it has very low miles. I decided to buy it back. It has no chassis damage, all the suspension snapped clean off just as one would want.
I just don't want to risk my €20,000 gearbox.
I have asked Porsche Main Delaer for info on a special tool. He will look into it and get back to me.
Thanks again for your help.

I found a small gearbox place in London (Auto Boss Gearboxes) who rebuilds VW DSG and many other types of gearboxes. They opened my gearbox up, gave it a comprehensive check and test, they replaced the necessary seals for me.
The business owner advised me that many of the parts in a PDK are exactly the same as in a VW DSG gearbox. He also said most of the special tools required to rebuild them are the same too.
He has repaired a few PDK boxes for other people. Most gearbox specialists I called would not even attempt a repair on a PDK.
I took the car for a drive yesterday after a 1.5 hour geometry, so far so good.
Thanks for all your help.

Awesome news! Good to see also that the myth of the pdk box being somehow totally sealed for life as if the casing was cast over the cogs etc. is proved to (obviously) be rubbish.

i'd like to think we're inching closer and closer to having repair/servicing options other than rote replacement. little glimmer of hope here.
I envision the day when you can purchase a reasonably priced tool to be able to do a (simple??) fluid change at home

Is your PDK gearbox still good?
Thanks.
