I wanted a coupe but my wife convinced me to go for a cab. We found the perfect example so there was no hesitation really.
I have been riding motorcycles for many years and I absolutely love to have the top down and feel the smell of fields when you drive on the countryside or early summer mornings to work. An added bonus is the sound of the sports exhaust which is heard loud and clear. Much better than in a coupe
Even if I had a coupe I wouldnt drive it in the winter due to bad road conditions so this is just right for us at the moment.

My 996 C4S was a coupe, and I loved the lines on that car. My plan was to buy a 997 coupe, but I decided to drive a cabriolet just to see if I liked it. I was shocked at how much I liked it, and I ended up buying it. Overall, I still think the coupe has better lines, but the cabriolet is damn sexy too. It looks very muscular from behind with the top down. My car is a wide body, and it almost looks wider than a coupe when the top is down. One of the things that surprised me is that the car is very quiet and civilized with the top closed. Other than reduced visibility, it feels very much like a coupe.
I know that they aren't for everybody, but I love my cabriolet. Driving a Porsche on a mountain road with the top down is a great experience.

As a motorcycle rider, I would probably like the cabriolet if I did not own a bike. I do prefer the coupe for weight savings and the rear slope of the roofline. My wife is careful about protecting her skin from the sun so a convertible would be pointless for her.
Hate is a strong word though, and should only be used for certain vehicles (PT Cruiser, Juke, Pinto, and the Aztec come to mind). A 911 is hardly a car to hate.

Don't hate cabs, just prefer the coupe more, especially for a 997, the cab doesn't look nearly as nice. I do think the 991 cab has much prettier lines. Coupe wise I actually prefer 997 a bit more.
Also just don't feel as secure driving a cab vs a coupe. But that's just me. I wouldn't mind if a hard top cab.

I love driving with the top down, plus I get to Great weather 9 months out if the year. I agree that the lines on a cab are much better top down. Still, I don't get all the cab bashing. If you don't like it, don't own one. Simple as that.

What for ? What has it done for you ?
Our seal grey C4 Cab MT is the greatest...sorry, but you did enquire. Lobsters with with red brake calipers, stunning at any angle.
Our coast to coast road trip from Virginia to Santa Barbara and back this coming summer is going to be better in a cab by a long shot.
Coupes do look a bit better, only side view though. Cab AWD better at rear and 3/4, as well as head on, with top down, especially the AWD model. Again, coupe better at side view.
That one aspect is not what I'm hanging my driving experience on though. For that to be the decider, I would have to stare at it intently from the side while someone else tooled around in it.
I thought long and hard about replacing my current Goldwing with a Harley Ultra Classic, only for the cool factor though, as the GW is also a water cooled flat 6.
Then I thought, OK, top down Carrera outdoor experience better than Harley with helmet, 911 sound system better, handling better, luggage better, two up riding better (less cramped), and only gas mileage 5-10 mpg worse.

Oh, and Cabs, to me they are like a Signal Green 911. I love the look but would never own one (that's what people used to tell me about my SY 911).

As a constant blind spot looker over the shoulder guy.
Cab's blind spot is too grand for my taste.
Its always too, sunny,too cold,too windy,too dusty,too rainy,too something.
To be honest, I don't even open the sun roof?
Not a hatter. Just not for me.

Coupes are beautiful and are better for the track. I wanted a fun car to drive around Michigan 8 months of the year and the occasional warm dry February day. I doubt I will ever take it to the track. I think the cab is beautiful and is a great car to drive top up or down. When I look in the garage I smile and can't believe it's my car. It drives and handles better than any other car I have driven. I have driven 991's and did not enjoy them as much. I feel like I own the perfect car for me and it's rare to be that satisfied.
I never thought about a 911, never owned a convertible and was ready to buy my 8th Corvette coupe but I knew I was not excited enough. A friend emailed me last September about a 2005 cab with 25k miles that was black w/ tan interior. That sounded interesting so I called the guy and he said he had to ask his wife. I went online to see what the car should go for and find comparables. One of the first cars I saw sounded great, priced fair, had the right options and was slate gray w/ tan interior. I liked that car more than anything else I saw online. I test drove a friend's 996 Cab to be sure I enjoyed the car.
The local guy said his wife wouldn't sell it and I told him I didn't care. I went to NY and bought the car I saw online after a perfect ppi from the nearby Porsche dealer.
