How many people drive there cars to the 7k in the higher gears all the time?
When I lived in Germany even the Cab drivers would drive the cars just before the red line.

whats the upper red line?
Is there a lower red line? A middle red line?
Do I rev the car to fuel cutoff...yes. Often, nah, but then I have a turbo that has roughly 500lb ft of torque, so it doesn't need to be revved as much as the NA cars.

sure I do
I guess I always have and never have worried about it.
I grew up in Germany and a couple of my 1st Cars where Golfi GTI G60 Wolfburg Edition, Ralley Golf GTI. Opel Ascona, Scirocco and a few others.
Nobody worried about an over rev report or stuff like that.
The Golf's I had the most fun with.
oh the good old times

Bounced it off the redline once, and scared teh hell out of me because I was so surprised how fast i got there. Love living between 5-7000. My nephew rides with me and says, "Dad (my brother) never drives the Aston above 4000 rpms. Your way is more fun." Well, hell yeah!

Chicagoans love to tailgate you at 90+ MPH as soon as outbound traffic back to the suburbs dissipates during the work week. Doesn't matter if they're driving a Dodge Caravan, a Toyota Prius, or any other kind of mundane commuting appliance, they'll tailgate you, even if you're not in the passing lane. Hell, sometimes they'll tailgate you when you're not making a pass fast enough in the passing lane, or even if the passing lane itself is clear for them to pass you.
Let's just say the 4,000-7,250 RPM range is useful for showing people the difference between a sports car and a mommymobile.
It's fun when a kid in a Lancer Evolution or a Subaru WRX STi, or other hot-hatch eggs me on to a quick sprint to the ton, though. Our gear ratios are well matched for these kinds of shenanigans.

Unless I'm out on the open road, due to traffic, I spend some tiny fraction of the time I'm driving really pushing it. When I do, I like to shift when I see the revs going past 6,000 which probably means about 6,500 by the time I'm through the process in an MT . It's my understanding that keeps the engine in the sweet spot for torque.
Quick story ... the manual for my 1988 930 stated: "once per day, with the engine at normal operating temperature, please accelerate at full throttle to redline in first gear to blow any moisture out of the turbocharger wastegate". That was the last of the four-speeds and so hit 58mph in first at redline at which point the turbo was wailing and the thing was a complete monster. It was a crazy instruction, and I always thought I might need to pull it out to explain my driving one day to a member of a law enforcement agency. :-)

Redline on the 997.1 S cars is 7300 so that's why I use it. Why else have this car?
When you redline in the lower gear, it drops you into the maximum torque location for the next gear.
