Quick note on my experience in case it might help someone out.
Several companies list a kit for varying $ noting possible performance gains but many commented the enhanced sound it produced. I loved the Gundo hack I did last year so I wanted to try it out.
A quick search and the silicone hose is available in various colors from TopSpeedAuto.com for $29.99 with free ship until the end of Feb. Nothing negative on other suppliers just an alert on a good experience with a low cost option. http://topspeedauto.com/intake-kits/

Looks like any other well-made silicone hose I’ve used over the years. It didn’t come with new clamps but saw no reason they would be needed either.







It does not come with the cap to cover the 1 7/8” opening for the Helmholtz resonator. Quick trip to Ace Hardware and found Pipeconx Cap part #4094702 for $3.99. It’s a perfect fit and includes the SS clamp. I did the lucky dance and bought a few lottery tix…you never know. (marked for 1.5” ID pipe but is close fit for the 1.875 OD hole)

For less than $35 & a few minutes time and it's done. Hard to describe the change in sound but I do like it. No idea if there is any performance gain, if there is it’s just an added bonus.

I thought it was worth it. I can't distinguish the source of the sound, rather the overall sound from the back end tied to my right foot is altered and sounds better to me. It is a small change.

I have black full leather with black track wheels, this is subtle and worked for me. I think you could easily walk by and not notice it.

 

For $35 I'll give it a shot. Much more reasonable than the alternatives offered by some.

 

At the large end of the boot was a stock or manufacturing # with a small clear sticker over it. I removed it, looked like it would come loose & enter the intake. You'll see what I mean. .

 

Love the look of the car. What springs are you using? Spacers?

I went the similar route as you. Could not see my self spending 200+ on a simple silicone hose just because its for a Porsche and someone placed their logo on it.
Since i have 82MM tb i got a 3.5 inch (89mm) silicone 45 degree elbow, 5mm thick 4 ply form ebay for 11.99 and cut it to fit for a slight slant.
Fit perfectly over the TB and the airbox outlet and it keep the same diameter all the way from the airbox to TB without restriction/reduction in the hose.

I do want to say that i felt a little difference between stock hose and the 3.5inch. Just the way engine revved seemed a touch easier with new hose and sound seemed a touch "muted" with the stock hose.

 

I'm going to assume that's to me...those are Bilstein B16/pasm coilovers. No spacers with OZ Superleggera HLT 19x8.5 and 19x11 with stock tire sizes for a narrow body.

 

Cheap and cheerful, just the way I like it! After owning my car since June of last year (and really enjoying it) I've started looking around for simple mods that as a way to play around with my car. I'm not an appearance person and I think the 997 looks fantastic just as it rolled off the factory. I am going to try this or maybe even the K&N intake using an AEM dry filter. With this kind of stuff you can always go back to stock. I'm kind of fascinated by the sound the 997 C4S made it the recent Smoking Tire One Take video and that used the K&N.

$30 odd dollars is about what this little mod should cost IMHO. I can't believe Fabspeed hasn't dropped the price of their kit in light of all the Ebay versions that are out now. Also the guy in the Fabspeed videos is such a strong salesperson that I it makes me skeptical about their products. If they were that good they wouldn't require the "Shamwow" pitch that the guy uses.

The K&N on that car sounds AMAZING, but I cannot deal with a poorly heat-shielded intake that would suck hot air in. It's too bad, because it really does sound great!

Yes, Motopix, that was for you. Thanks for the response. I have optional OEM sport wheels 11.5" 67 offset in the rear and am contemplating spacers. When I see a nice look I'm always interested in what is being used. I may just try the ECS spacer rental kit to see what works best.
