Default 2012 997.2 GTS vs C2S

hi Guys,

i am wondering if to buy a GTS or a 2S - 2012 model.

I am planning to keep the car for atleast 8 years - so its not going to be a quick sell. planning to drive quite a bit.

i dont take cars to track, but will surely try 2 times a year when i get my 911.

i live in rainy seattle - any thoughts or suggestions on which to get?

I have thought about 4s - but then i probably will need to go to 997.1 due to price.

i love bells and whistles in a car - so 997.2 is a bit plus with nav, bluetooth, etc.

appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks

8 years? How many miles per year?
How many miles on the car you are looking to buy vs the end miles at 8 years?

I am gonna buy a car with less than 40k miles, will put another 80k miles by end of 8 years I guess - is my 8 year plan not a good one? Is there an alternative strategy? I though of 8 years because if I am spending over 70k, I should at least hold it for substantial amount of time?

I would think you could get a 997.2 C4S cheaper than a GTS.

GTS but I'm biased. You'll like the extra torque and pull at higher RPM.

Not sure if gas mileage is an issue at all, but in my GTS I was never able to get anywhere near the epa ratings, which were the same as for the S. I was lucky to get 22 on the highway, 16 in town, driving like a grandma. I think it's the power kit.

Something you might want to consider in your long term planning, it is very common that after the normal 12 to 15 years of depreciating value, a Porsche then begins a long process of appreciating value. Everyone likes to point to particular examples, but the fact is this happens with all of them, provided only they are well cared for. Not preserved, you can drive them plenty, just well cared for. So in other words you are planning on keeping this car only until its value bottoms, and then selling just when it is about to start becoming increasingly valuable over time.

I mention this because I've actually lived through it. Only, I was the guy buying mine from a guy like you who sold his at about 12 years old. What a pleasant surprise the last few years to find its now worth about twice what I paid.

So you might want to consider the GTS on the odds of being less common it will do this, only more so. But mostly you might want to consider that, having found a 911 you can enjoy driving a good 8 years, that it might wind up being one you can enjoy driving for two, or even three times as long as that.

I get about 18/24 with normal driving in my manual.

You should be able to get a 4S for less than a GTS, especially if you look outside of the Seattle area (where everyone thinks they need AWD for the two snow days we get per year). If you don't care about the GTS extras and uniqueness, save yourself some money and go with a 2S, especially considering the number of miles you will put on the car.

I recently traded in my 2009 C2S launch edition for a 2012 GTS. OMG what a difference. The GTS is faster, more visceral, has many unique features (a wide body C2, Alcantara interior, 23 extra hp, etc.) The GTS was the best of the "affordable" 997's made. There also was, comparatively speaking, very few made (especially the 4GTS vert). In 8 years I believe the GTS will hold it's value enough to justify the premium you are paying today - at least I hope so. Good luck with your purchase.

C4S will be cheaper than a GTS.

As for gas mileage someone once asked me what sort of mileage I get with my 911. Told him I have no idea. I didn't buy the car for mileage. If I wanted great mileage I would have bought a Prius (well maybe not). Anyway even today I still don't know and don't care.

I really don't like black interior, which makes my search very very limited... :-(

This gts is red with beige interior. Just the way I like it... 4s and 2s, have been usually black interior or based in East Coast. No one seem to be selling their 911s except non-s versions or targas...

If I spend 72k on a good gts, I can't believe it will hold good value in 8 years with 100k miles on it... Tough to believe seeing that 12-15 year old cars are all under 40k... Almost

Not counting turbos which I am not considering...

Another reason for gts is that a lot of options are already pre-packaged with GTS brand

Thoughts?

Why is miles a consideration in gts vs 2s?
