Default Phone Mount Idea! Suggestions Wanted.

So, I've been looking for a good phone mount for my 997 for a while now and thanks to this forum I've narrowed the search to two for various different reasons:

1st is the NKMOS http://nkmos.com/pages/ultima-model-s due to its sleek design and sticky pad that allows for one handed placement of virtually any object (thinking iPhone and cobb AP) and no visible mount edges around the phone.

2nd is the ProClip http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard-..._leftorright=0 for its simplicity and placement of the device.

I really don't want a suction cup to the windshield but I really want the sticky pad. Then I saw that NKMOS offers an upgrade kit from their previous model http://nkmos.com/collections/all/pro...conversion-kit that would include everything to mount the sticky pad to the proclip!

So I guess my question is, assuming you drilled the mounting holes properly in the proclip, does anyone see any reason why this best of both worlds solution wouldn't work?

I see no problem. The ProClip offers a large enough flat pad.

The problem I see is the hassle of attaching the charging cable. The ProClip charging cradle addresses this.

I tend toward long trips so charging while I drive is important to me. It may not matter as much to you.

I dd mine so its semi-rare I plug in. I know I'm going to have a cobb AP so it would be awesome to just attach things at random in that very spot.

FWIW, I modeled and 3D printed my own phone holding solution that is designed to fit in the ashtray. Probably wouldn't work if you have a manual car. It utilizes the popular iMagnet mount. Pics:

I wanted to be able to rotate mine so I use Proclip with a magnet connector. Works for me.

The magnet is on the Proclip and on the back of the phone is a 3M adhesive with a metal plate. Roughly 1x1 inch

Nicely done. I admire this but prefer a minimal eye sweep using the phone's nav. But other than that, kudos.

I sabotaged an iOttie mount and used the phone holder, and used some 1.5" aluminum strip to make a mount similar to the ProClip one, except mine mounts into the AC vent.. I then mounted the iOttie phone holder to the aluminum mount I made. I have the power for the phone coming out of the AC vent as well. Cost about $25 all-in and a few hours of time.

I use CD mount and I'm happy with it. No mods and holds the phone very well.

Another vote for ProClip, a rock solid mount I've used on both on my 997s. It holds the phone in an ideal place for the eyes and fingers to reach. As Wayne points out an iPhone just snaps into power when you place it in the holder (assuming you get the powered one). I use a black cable and tuck it into the gap below the a/c vent trim to the same switched power I used for my radar detector. That way the cable is virtually invisible and its USB voltage transformer causes no "vampire" power drain when the car is off (since our car lighters stay powered all of the time).

I use this in all my vehicles. Very happy with the ability to swivel and mount firmly. Minimal obstruction of the PCM.

Agree. I never use the CD player anyway (Although the mount I have says that you can use the CD player with the mount in place). It's at a good level if you need to use it for navigation. Also out of the way of the PCM.

CD plays. Easy to remove the mount and load CD. Not much obstruction for PCM or Air vent.
