Default Durametric Ethusiast question

Since Durametric is closed through January 1st and I may be heading to Chicago to look at this C4 Cab I have been dickering with the dealer about I wonder if any of you know if the Durametric tool will automatically register a car if it is just plugged into a new to it car. I have the Enthusist version and two of the three VINs are taken up with my old 993's. I would really hate to have this possible purchase take the last VIN listing and then not buy the car and lose the use of the tool. Any own know the answer? Thanks.

My understanding is that you have the cable re-set by Durametric for a fee and start from zero cars again. You should contact them directly to confirm, however.

It will recognize the new VIN and register it as your 3rd one.

Is there a simple way to see how many cars a cable is "registered" to?

The Enthusiast model allows you to run an abuse report on an unlimited number of cars.

http://durametric.com/usedporschebuyersguide.aspx

The website says this is supported only in V5 software, while is not the current version but is still available for download.

Although I've heard that some have done it successfully, there is no official option to add VINs to an Enthusiast cable that has reached the 3 VIN limit. But you can pay the difference between the current price of the Enthusuast and Professional versions to upgrade an Enthusuast model to a Professional model with unlimited VINs.

That is my understanding too - the first three Porsches that you plug into fills your quota with the Enthusiast.

Thanks for the replies. Car sold yesterday. Oh well, missed another. Too bad, I liked the color and option list on this one. Sigh.
