I just brought home my new to me 2008 C4s manual. PPI was a must for me. It only registered a couple range 2 revs. Nothing in the 3-6 range. Everything passed with flying colors.

It was a pain to find a shop to do the PPI. Some said liability, some said not woth the time as it ties up a rack for a couple hundred bucks, one said "why do it if your not going to be a return customer."

This was in the San Diego area.

No doubt some shops take this attitude, which is unfortunate... But most don't... Just as an example I bought my car from a private seller based in Long Island, car was in FL -- had it PPI'd by an unaffiliated Porsche dealer in FL before getting it shipped up here. Explained that clearly to the dealer and he had no issue at all -- knew the car was not going to be a service customer there as it was getting shipped up the eastern seabord... Think the PPI cost $300ish.

I bought an 2011 C2S CPO. I did not get PPI, but did not know better at the time. Would do so now, if I had to do it all over. Knock on wood, cars been super reliable and a lot of fun to drive. Hope it works out for you...T

You are unlikely to have overrev issues with a PDK, but what I believe you can determine is how often launch control was used, which could be very important.

Yes, they were an option on the 997.1. I believe they will also fit the 997.2. Those are some of the best looking Porsche wheels, IMO.

Sounds like a good deal to me. How long has the dealer had it in inventory? I'm wondering why they're so reasonable in SFO.

Must be one of the longest threads in RL history but reading the first post only goes a long way.
Yes indeed, required reading...an eye opener for sure...

PPI scheduled. Is there anything I should ask in particular in the PPI or is it standard procedure? Another dealer in the area will be performing the PPI.

At the time of my PPI, I didn't know about running a DME / overrev report. I would definitely ask for that in particular -- it is not usually included in a Porsche dealer "standard" PPI (I'm told... and the dealer I had it done at did not mention it to me...)

Thanks again for answering my rookie questions.

I am elated to announce I have finalized a deal on the car, transferred the funds, purchased a one-way plane ticket for tomorrow morning to pick up the car! Prior to taking delivery however, I will be driving the car to an unaffiliated Porsche dealer for a PPI.

I look forward to "officially" joining the Porsche community and meeting you all hopefully in person.

Will post photos when I take delivery. It will be difficult falling asleep tonight...

Where is the car located? Take the opportunity to exercise it a little on curvies if you have a chance. Gently until you gain experience.

If you're coming up/down the Coast, let us know. Perhaps, we can provide an escort into SF.

That would be fun! Car is in LA, will be taking PCH all the way up.

What dealer? I bought mine from Rusnak down that way.

Keep me posted. Try to meet you in Santa Cruz. Any idea day/time you'd be there?
