*POSSIBLE* iPhone 5 & 6 Lightning cable SOLUTION!

Hi all,
It's been a wild since I have posted. I just picked up a 2009 997 and I am not happy as I'm sure many aren't with Porsches iPhone cable. Especially if you have a newer one with the lightning cable iPhone 5 iPhone 6.

Doing some research online it's a little difficult to find out exactly what the pin placement is for the DIN connector but it sounds like most audio related connectors are the same.

I personally am not worried about this cable not being able to charge the iPhone but I believe that the six-foot length gives you a lot of flexibility on iPhone placement?

It seems like the next best thing discussed in the forums is the Bluetooth from the Porsche accessory cable type but that's not the route that I want to go.

Any thoughts?

Hmm, I'm not sure what that is but I don't see any issues with the Porsche adapater, 30pin extension and an Apple 30pin to Lightning adapter. I have it and it works fine.

Can anyone explain how to get music to play from your iPhone? Is that through the radio.

I have the Porsche version of whats pictured above that is for the iphone 4 and prior - it has two places that plug into the car. http://suncoastparts.com/product/I612C47102.html I purchased a 30 pin to lightning converter from apple (must be apple brand, not a knock off in order to play music AND charge). http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD...30-pin-adapter

I can play music through the car and charge the phone.

It depends if you have the Universal Audio Interface. That is what the cord above plugs into.

I purchased the porsche conversion cord that plugs both into the USB and the Iphone din plug for my ipod. See the picture and cord here:
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/I612C47102.html

I have not tried to connect my iphone, although i have read that i only need the adapter to the lightning cord.

Well I found this thread using a search.

So, I am new to P cars. On my BMW I simply plug in the iPhone to USB cable and select source and it plays. My understanding is that the USB won't work and I'll need to buy that other cable. Even then, how do I switch to it?

So, can anyone answer my question as to how to switch to an input Aux, USB, or iPhone Cable?

I have all three of those inputs but I do not know how to switch to them.

To OP: That cord may allow your phone to play music but it will not charge the phone. That is why the Y'ed Porsche cable is needed, the USB is only used to provide the current for charging. The Y cable isn't that pricey and the official Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter works just fine. I'd recommend going with the known solution and not worry about saving a few dollars for something that may or may not work.

Edit: I may have had my answer to MaddMike wrong so I've deleted mine so as not to confuse anyone. My car's in for service so I can't verify my answer. There are better suggestions in the later posts below in any case

One more thought to Madd Mike on the USB subject: I've only ever used the USB to download data from the Sport Chrono's track recordings and to power the charging on the Y cable for my iPhone as mentioned earlier. For the USB to be visible for the track recordings download, I had to use an old-style low-capacity FAT format on the USB. Newer formats for larger capacity drives wouldn't show up. t'm not sure if it can be used for music... I'm sure others will know.

They show up in your selections on the PCM screen on AUX/IPOD/USB. (They only show up as options if the PCM recognizes the device.) Or, you can tab through using the source button on your PCM. Mine is on the left of the screen.

You should see them as possible inputs to choose from when you push the DISC button on the PCM panel. If you don't see them you may have to dive into the PCM options sub-menus as it's possible to enable/disable AUX, iPod and USB inputs from ever showing up on the DISC input menu. This may be the problem you're having.

If you have the right cable, iPod shows up as a choice along with Disc and Aux.

Thanks guys, I'm out of town for the holiday but I will check it out as soon as I get home. Anyone have a link to the correct cable? I tried both the Apple web site and Amazon an came up empty for "Porsche cable" searches.
