Thoughts on buying car with PDK replaced under CPO warranty
So looking at a 2011 997.2 Coupe that had the PDK transmission replaced under CPO warranty at 50k. Car looks/drives great, will do a PPI, and has about 6 months left on the CPO warranty which will transfer. Should I be concerned?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would take it to the dealer and have them inspect it before you buy it. Ask them if theres anything to be concerned about and about the warrantee transfer. if its ok, wouldnt worry any further

I bought my car which was tainted with a pdk replacement... It doesn't seem all that uncommon. I called the dealer who did it and spoke to the service advisor about it to see of he remembered anything. After all of those conversations I got comfortable with the idea that my transmission was only 5k miles old. I did have a fresh 2 years of CPO though.
If you do some research you'll find out that PCNA doesn't allow any dealers to service the PDK transmission, if there are any issues they have to replace the entire thing. Good luck!!!!

Why is your car tainted by having the PDK replaced?
The replacement transmission comes with a 2 year warranty irrespective of the remaining CPO. OP, how long ago was it replaced on the car you are considering?

I agree. Unless there's evidence of abuse elsewhere I'd go as far as to say a PDK replacement under warranty is a non-issue. I had mine replaced on the -09 C4S for what was almost certainly an electronically related problem. As pointed out earlier, dealers aren't allowed to do much in terms of repairs on PDK units so they're replaced routinely instead of repaired/serviced.

New PDK tranny? Bonus! My 2009 C4S is fine (fingers crossed). My 2008 GTI had its dsg box replaced under warranty at 75k miles and I'm delighted about having a brand new gear box!

To the OP, if anything you should feel good about it having fewer miles on it but if youre at all queasy ill politely suggest you choose one from a dlr that will give you a fresh 2yr CPO. You can search around for an extended aftermarket warranty for the car but make sure you get all the service records.

I said tainted because at first it was a concern for me until I got comfortable with the idea. Now, as many pointed out, I have a brand new pdk unit in my car, which I now consider a bonus.

I have PDK, knock on wood, and its 5-6yrs old. 31k miles on it including a dozen track days.
I sure hope this post doesn't do me in....
If it does, please break before the end of Feb 2016. Thanks.

As others have wisely offered, absent any signs of abuse to the car, and provided the car checks out OK -- don't focus on the replaced PDK to the exclusion of everything else -- the fact the PDK was replaced is of no concern.

OP where are you located? If you're in South Florida, I'd be more than happy to perform an extensive PPI at no cost to you. That goes for anyone in South Florida. We're located just west of Ft. Lauderdale.
