Default Alignments

Replaced my 2 rear tires with Michelin PS2 (Michelin PSS stay up front). Not driving as sharp - steering veers a bit left and right at both low and high speeds.

How often do you guys get alignments? Indy says get a Road Force Balance first and see if that helps.

often

i would check alignment annually

if you feel something is off, u shd definitely check it at a good shop that has experience with porsches

porsches are extremely alignment sensitive

having mismatched tires front and rear not such a great idea either

Porsche dealership, Michelin, and very good Indy all 3 stated mixing PSS and PS2 is fine....I confirmed this before I made that swap. They stated going with something else would not work (Potenza rear etc)

How old are the fronts?
Hard fronts and gooey new rears will throw off the driving feel.

They're still soft up front with lots of tread - 20k highway miles. I know Macster here gets a lot more out of his fronts than that....

I'm starting to think I should just deal with this for maybe 8k more miles and then replace all 4 again with either PSS or Potenza Pole positions...

It drives well now, but before this swap it was driving perfect. I should mention when the rear left tire blew clean off - half the wheel had pavement contact for about 20ft. I was afraid that might be the reason i have some slight twitchy handling characteristics now - thrown out of whack possibly vs. the PS2/PSS combo....

Para? Did the tire installer spin up the naked rear rim without the tire to check to see if it was still true. Is there a abnormal amount of sticky weights in there? 10" of lead in there could be a sign?
I did a quick kijijijijijij search in Toronto. No used lobsters for sale here ;(
There usually is. It's almost snow tire. Perhaps they have been snapped up?

The Porsche dealership did a mount and balance of the rear replacements.

I'm about to drive to a shop and see about getting a road force balance and possible alignment. Would rather get another year out of this set then start replacing everything now for another grand.

Went to a local recommended shop - got a 4 wheel alignment for $59.95. The car drives superb now. Better than when I had the full set of Michelin PSS. Planted and stable at high speed with race car precision. Amazing what a difference.

For $59.95?? I am happy for you if you are satisfied. Here in Boston nobody would touch a Porsche alignment for less then $250. For $60 our "Porsche" specialists wouldn't even pick up a phone. Enjoy your nice Florida roads and good weather.

hopefully the tire mounter would at least look at the wheel as he balances it and see if its bent.
balancing the tires would have nothing to do with the cars tracking, if its pulling or mis tracking its an alignment problem. If its vibrating or shaking its a wheel tire problem.
old tires and new tires mixed will cause the car to mistrack, but most porsches can stand 2 sets of new tires on the rear with one set of fronts
( I think 20k miles is pushing your luck ) any more mistracking problems just replace the fronts.

PS2s and PSSs are very different tires. Your mismatched setup is what you feel. Be careful...

Was reading along wondering if anybody was ever gonna figure out the obvious.
Guess I'm not too surprised you got it.
Thanks!
Now lets hope the OP ditches those fronts pronto.

You got me, checked again it was actually $69.95 + tax = 74 dollars! This shop was recommended to me by my local PCA chapter and a race instructor who regularly has them spec her 993 before track events.

Sounds like your town likes to make you pay the Porsche tax!

Also the PS2/PSS now work fantastic together (after the alignment) - Braman Porsche in Palm Beach and my personal tech both said it would be fine and they were right - I was skeptical too. I'm in no rush to switch this out anymore.

There is a full set of Michelin PSS on the way but that's mounted to the new 2016 Shelby GT350.

I have found that unless a car is in an accident or have worn parts a wheel alignment is rarely needed.
In your case with the wheel hitting the ground from a blowout that certainly could cause the rear to move.
I have driven Porsche's and Corvettes for as much as 15 years per car and never had an alignment.
Uneven tire wear is a pretty good indicator that something is wrong on your suspension other wise I don't touch it. For the first 100 miles or so new tires can be somewhat squirrely after that I would check everything.
