I bought mine as CPO so not to jeopardize 2 years of warranty I won't hesitate in the spring.

So can it be done at home without and electronic hookups?

No ... PIWIS is required to shut off a cooling tube, bring the oil temperature up, and cycle pumps at the right times. This is per Porsche.

Why not measure what you remove and then add that amount back? I don't know, but Porsche says there is a 5 minute window to do things with the PIWIS or you will damage the gears.

I don't know if this has to do with pump priming, or something else. For Porsche, this seems self serving.

Nonetheless, I admit, I got scared and headed to the dealer!

Brings up a side question ... the 991 MT is very close to the same as the PDK. Does changing this oil require the same procedure as the PDK?

The critical thing is the clutch oil not really the gears oil. For the my it should be a simple drain refill without electronic intervention, if you have he right lubricant

I had the same experience with the dealer here. Ended up having mine done by an indie that had PIWIS.

I think it's more an issue of resale value preservation for potential future (extremely picky) buyers than it is peace of mind.

One thing to keep in mind is the PDK clutch oil interval was doubled on the 991 to 12 years / 120K. I'm not sure if that's because they upgraded the factory fill to unicorn semen or they simply decided it wasn't necessary to change it that often after us 997 guinea pigs got some test miles in for them.

That is an interesting development...now you have got me thinking if I should go through the oil replacement..I think your right us Guinea pigs showed the factory that the 6 years is too early. I read somewhere that he had this done and the oil that came out looked new

Do you know which VINs have unicorn semen as a lubricant? Lol

Ok gentlemen. Just for additional knowledge of all. I've done my clutch oil and gearbox oil change. Drain both oils. My dealer drained overnight. If doing gearbox oil, which I did as it removed assembly dirt etc., fill gearbox with the correct lubricant in the normal mode. Then pre fill clutch oil with around 2 liters of the oil. Start engine to bring clutch oil to correct temp of 30 to 50..then use piwis to go into fill mode. Fill mode does not last 5 minutes to protect the gearbox when in fill mode fill clutch oil till it overflows from the filler hole. That's it!!
Gearbox quieter, smooth shifts....performance improvement noticed!
