Hi,
No real answer for you but I have had a similar experience.
I recently bought a WMA1000 for my '09 997.2. Mine seems to have a bit of a mind of its own. Sometimes it connects through the IPOD function on PCM and works perfectly with playlist and song names showing on PCM. Sometimes it connects through the IPOD function but no song names appear, and sometimes (though not often) it will only connect through AUX function. It seems to play music regardless so I haven't worried too much about it.
I have found if I turn the ignition on and off at a set of lights it will usually start working properly though the IPOD function.
I should mention this is all done with an Iphone 7 and I'm streaming from Spotify.

Ugh. I guess I'll try buying an iPod Nano tomorrow and seeing if that plays via iPod on PCM. If that doesn't work I will be a little PO'd since the WMA1000 unit + Y cable cost nearly $200 CAD.

My 2009 997.2 does not have the USB or Aux inputs in the armrest or glovebox. Is there a lightning cable that would plug into the back of the PCM that would charge the phone and play music from an iPhone 6S?
I do have the bluetooth phone feature enabled, but I do not want to use bluetooth for music, even if it can do it.

Get a Mobridge http://www.mobridge.us if you have the optical out on the PCM 3.0. Allows for BT streaming but keeps everything digital. I think they may have recently come out with one that allows for HD streaming (FLAC, lossless)

Hmm, according to their product search engine, looks like they have nothing for PCM 3:
"Available Products for Porsche 911 997 with PCM 3
There are no compatible products at this time."

They have them. People on here have used them for the 3.0. You just have to call or e-mail them. They are in Australia

Hmmm, slightly off topic but my Iphone 7 doesn't work in my 2009 c4s. When I make or receive a call I can hear the other party fine but they cannot hear me. The phone is paired correctly. Is the problem with the microphone?

I also use waze's speaker option thru the PCM's Bluetooth phone. It works as it should and announces directions and alerts thru the phone's Bluetooth connection.

I'm having this same issue. Anyone have ideas? Started when I moved from IPhone 6 to a 7. 2009 C4S.

Problem Solved
I'm embarrassed to say, all I had to do was turn up the volume on the pcm while connected to a call. Not sure how it got turned all they way down, but 2-3 good turns and I could hear the calls.
Hope that solves your issue. I feel pretty stupid!!
