I went to a PCA DE event in early October at Gateway Motorsports in Madison, Illinois. It was my first time on a track with my 997 (which I've only owned since January) and I had so much fun! The car is amazing, and so capable....definitely designed for the track! Here are a couple of photos.

If you participate or just watch enough DE's, for Porsche or other makes, sooner or later you will get to see some cars comeback to the paddock on roll-backs. Sometimes a car problem, sometimes a driver problem, just sometimes bad luck. But if a driver stays within his limits, then the reward of increased driver skill is worth it. But just being out in one's car on the open road also has risks. Heck, I once saw a car get wrecked at VIR on a parade lap. A Porsche instructor was tragically killed at our SC track, at Kershaw, about 4 years ago, when the car went into some trees, and he was killed by an intrusion into the cockpit.
My son and I had thousands of track miles in our previous sports car, and for both of us, track time was tremendously instructive for both of us, esp with quality in car instruction. But now, track time is a
"been there, done that" sort of experience. We have an Elise and a GT3, and greatly enjoy them, but our excitement has moved to firearms and surfing, and we are about to "get into" compound bows.
I heartily suggest any Porsche owner should at least participate in one or more DE's to have the opportunity to experience some of the road capability of his or her motorcar in a quite safe environment.
Here is my son at Carolinas Motorsports Park, SC, in our prior 997S.

You couldn't pay me enough to drive either of these first two vintage champions.
But when My GT3 had a mechanical problem this past August on the way from SC out to western Nebraska to run the Sandhill's Challenge, we decided to go ahead an run it anyway in my wife's turbo Mini. Pretty challenging 52 mile open road event, my son driving, he ran down a Shelby Mustang and a new "Vette that had left about a minute before we were waved off.
All the best....

Couple rally's and a track day
End of the day shot from my first time at Chuckwalla Raceway.
Chuckwalla
Monte Carlo (navigational) road rally - ~Nov 2014
Rally 1
And another rally from Sep 2015.
September 2015 rally - I'm on the right in the yellowish shirt; my navigator is on the left.
Rally's are SUPER fun. If anyone from SoCal is interested in trying one just go to the Into The Night Rally Team site at http://carzero.freeservers.com/blank.htm or search for the Facebook page.
