Default '07 C2S - Need help with HomeLink set up

Again, new to Forum and to the car. Thanks for your help with spacers and springs previously

Tried programming my garage door opener tonight with no luck. It is a fixed code unit but just does not respond. Wiped the old settings off per manual instructions. followed directions but no luck. Any tricks or advice aside from going to local Porsche dealer for assistance?

Thanks in advance

I'm making an assumption here. Sorry if I'm wrong.

You need to use a hand held remote for the garage door to program your car. If you are using the button on the motor drive unit it will not work. If you don't have a hand unit check out the options at Home Depot.

OP - I found the instructions in the manual to not be very clear; but was able to get mine to work.

The question is whether your garage door opener is a fixed code system or a changeable code system.

If it is a changeable code system you have to follow the additional steps in the manual...on step 2 where it says "Press the programming button on the receiver for the garage door actuator" they are talking about a button that will be on the motor unit of your garage door opener. Where that is located will depend on the brand of your unit.

Hope that helps

Another assumption here: since you mentioned that it's a fixed code unit, my assumption is that it's old. Is this correct? If so, then the comments above should help. If the unit is new, then there may be another explanation. The Homelink system in the 997 does not work on the newest Homelink standard (I think it's Homelink 4.0). I just ran into this issue and I had to buy a repeater from Lift Master to allow my 997 Homelink to work. It works fine with my 2014 Audi and my 2015 GMC.

One other often over-looked step is to make sure your ignition switch is on when you are programming - unlike many other cars, Homelink in the p-car has no power to it if ignition is off.

Make sure that the garage remote is close to the tow hook area and near the bumper. Most instructions say to hold the garage remote in front of the bumper but that is too far away. I ended up needing to hold my garage remote 6 inches from the bumper and above the tow hook. Took me almost 1 week to figure it out.

It's all in the owner's manual - good picture too. Here's step 2:

2. Hold the original hand-held transmitter approx.
0 to 12 in. (0 to 30 cm) in front of the marked
position (figure) on the vehicle

I'm seeing some significant differences in the approach here and my guess is it is due to changes beween the 997.1 and the 997.2.

I see this time and again on this Forum. Not to be a nag, but a bit of model designation would be good on a lot of these posts.

1) First you need to clear any programs from the Homelink module in the car.

2) Then you need to program the Homelink module in the car using a handheld transmitter for your garage door.

3) Then you need to press the program button on your motorized garage door opener and train it using the transmitter buttons from the Homelink module in the car.

Aside from knowing where to hold the handheld transmitter in step 2, you might find you'll get better (easier to understand) instructions from doing a general Google Search on programming a Homelink system.

Thanks everyone. It is a 997.1 for clarification. I will actually try with the car running so that the ignition is definitely on and point the garage opener close to the tow hook. The manual states angling at the hood above the bumper off to the side. That didn't work.

Will give it another go and research Youtube before heading to local Porsche dealer to help. This is embarrassing but just can't seem to get it to work. Worked fine on my 2009 BMW 335i
