Dealers that charge are simply stupid and short sighted. A simple goodwill gesture yields dividends for them. You just need to find someone at your dealership who is not an idiot.

Yeah, just like looking for hen's teeth or horse's toes.

You want it done right, you gotta do it yourself.

I'm a little spoiled by the other cars I own that allow you full, unrestricted access to the engine ECU and/or body computer modules, either with free or relatively cheap software and accessories and a laptop. When I had my MINI I had some fun playing/hacking with BMW INPA/EDIABAS K-CAN software from time-to-time. I didn't really get very far, but I wish someone would do the same with PIWIS and MOST.
