Default Bad airbag sensor on passenger seat

Thought I'd raise an issue here to see if anyone has insight.

The airbag light comes on in my 06 997 base cabrio, My mechanic says it needs a new passenger seat sensor. The replacement part itself is very expensive as it includes all four sensors and the base for the seat itself...$3,900!

I trust my mechanic, a P-specialist who also has a very good reputation on these forums, and he's promised to research it more.

Has anyone had the same experience? Obviously, I want to make sure the airbags are working, but hoping to do it for less than that.

Thanks!

This often happens when you're in the car kneeling on the seat bottom (looking in the back, cleaning, etc.). You gotta be careful, those sensors are EXPENSIVE.

My passenger airbag light was the sensor in the bumper. 200 for the part 300 labour plus tax.
Did your indy hook it up to the expensive diagnostic machine? The full system can read these codes. The little one cannot.
Do check all your plugs under the seat.
You may love your indy. But for 3900, I double check with a second opinion.

Air bag default. My indy researched the codes and it was one of the sensors behind the bumper. 110 for the part and 315 labor. The seat belt buckle could also be creating the fault.

It would be cheaper to buy a used replacement seat w/the sensor intact than replace the sensor itself.

Awesome, thanks for the tips. I'll go back for a full diagnostic...hopefully the bumper. If not, will try to find a used part and a second opinion!

I had an Airbag light issue 2 years ago and tried to correct it with the Durametric, but no luck. Took it to the dealer and they said it was not covered under the Fidelity warrantee. They were able to get the part charged to Porsche based on low mileage, customer history/loyalty and only charged me for the labor. I was looking at $2K+, but got out of there for $650. They also gave me a PCA discount.

I'm having this same issue with my car right now. I haven't had the codes read yet. Interested to hear what you find out.

Did you find a more cost effective way to replace the occupancy sensor in the passenger seat?

Default Bad airbag sensor on passenger seat

Did you get this issue resolved? I am considering whether to purchase a 2007 997 C2S that has the same problem - fault codes 8013 and 8A01 "Front left sensor implausible." Other than this, the car is in great shape (clean PPI report, new tires, new brakes, 40k miles) and I am trying to determine how much of a discount to ask for on the purchase price. Dealer claims whole seat needs to be replaced and quoted $6-7k. Two indy's I went to are unsure whether individual sensors can be replaced and are checking it out.
