Default Tire Swap?

Hey guys! Is there anyway to actually take off your old worn tires and swap them for new tires on your wheels? If so what's the machine called and does it save you enough money over time to actually commit to such a machine? I know one of the biggest expenses is tires and I would rather do it myself then go to the shop twice a year! Any info pictures would be awesome! Thanks!

mounting tires @ shops is cheap as hell and the machine is expensive as hell. Keep in mind you would want to balance them too. Not worth it IMO since any local shop can do it, and fast too.

I have established a "relationship" with the guys at a local Discount tire. They are very, very careful with all of our cars, have great prices, match Tire Rack, and have the equipment to do our tires and wheels perfectly. They seem to take real pride in their profession. If you scout around, you can find some OEM takeoffs from someone who has put aftermarket wheels on their car. If you don't know what you are doing with a tire changer, you can hurt the wheel and yourself. Somethings are best left to professionals.

All the best....

You can buy the equipment you need to do roadforce balancing for about $25K. Another couple of grand for the equipment to change tires.

Twice a year? Really? How much mileage are you getting from your tires? Or to put it in another way, what tires are you running/what tread wear rating?

(Twice a year x 3 cars and I wouldn't have anymore money for gas! )

Default Tire Swap?

Very good advice guys! I guess taking it to the shop makes life alot easier! As far as balancing them, yea, I would have no idea. I was planning on changing them twice a year from regular use to track tires on the weekends. I plan on going to the track in Atlanta soon. Thanks again guys!

I take my wheels with old tires after I have cleaned them and new tires I get at the Tire Rack to the Dealer. They don't charge anymore than anyone else to mount balance the new tires and dispose of my old ones. I know they will not mess up my wheels because they have very picky customers.
Of course I have a SUV to carry them to the dealer. Been doing it for 10 years works for me
and have always got good service.

You should not swap from street tires to track tires and back on the same rims. Breaking the tire rim bead weakens the tire. If you need to use 2 sets of tires periodically, you ought to consider another set of rims.

I think you should buy my lobster forks for track wheels so I can convince my wife to let me get some rims!
