997.2 radio/PCM *****
Just in case any of you need to know, DO NOT try to simply pull the ***** off. The little center cover pops out and then you will need to use a torx T-6 bit to unscrew the small scew that attaches the ****. Very easy once you know but I will tell you that a T-6 torx bit is so small that you cannot even tell that it is anything more than a small dimple in the center of what appears to be a pressure retainer. Just thought I'd share so you don't destroy your PCM.

Thanks for the heads up. Is the center piece easy to pull without damaging it?

No, I bought mine from Suncoast. $60 is ridiculous for these two little parts. The center piece does pop out fairly easily without being damaged. Like everything you just need to take your time and be patient. Not difficult at all just small parts. Again, the T-6 torx scew in the middle of the **** is so small that it doesn't even look like anything more than a dimple in the center.
I did see a company on line somewhere that will refinish/refurb the *****. I can't rememer the website but it has something to do with "stickies." The Ferrari guys have similar problems with many of their black soft touch interior pieces that become sticky over time.
I just thought it was more convenient to suck it up and pay the damned $60.

Three Wheelin'
I had mine replaced under warranty a few years ago - my dealer got me new ones for me to install and Porsche wanted the old ones returned.

Radio *****
I had a Becker 220 in my former 87 targa that had stickie *****. The fix was to dip or spray the **** with plasti dip and they came out perfect. If there r any markings on the **** they will be covered up so not sure how the refinishing guys address this.

Thanks, I tried already but I am afraid this is not the same "stickiness" that we have in the South. With our hot weather and high humidity, rubberized materials sometimes start to melt creating a sticky surface. Unfortunately, cleaning will not help in this case

holy cow man. That's tough. Of course my car is close to being put in the garage for the next several cold months here in CT - so you at least get to drive your car. Sticky ***** be damned!! Ha

As far as I know, lambos and ferraris are even worse. The 997 ***** are easy to replace and cheap if compared with these two other automakers. A friend of mine from Boca Raton sold his gallardo last year... he told me one of the reasons was that lots of interior parts became sticky (door handles, shift paddles, A/C and radio buttons, etc).
