2005 997.1S C2 Drive belt REKT
Hello. Wanted to share my experience from last weekend here.
I live in Jacksonville FL and was on my way home from cars and coffee. I opened up my car to 6000RPMs in 2nd gear and shortly following heard the type of belt squealing you'd expect from that un-kept old Chevy Nova pushing 400K miles. I pull off of I95 and exit to a near by parking lot. Turns out its my drive belt seconds away from completely breaking. I kill the engine and call a tow truck.
My car is at 38,400 miles ... 1600 miles away from the 40K service where the belt is to be checked. Just two weeks prior I examined the belt myself and it looked great, no cracks or signs of weakness.
So, at this point I figured I was a complete moron and waited to long too replace it.
The car gets towed to Brumo's Porsche and I pray to everything that I am not about to be charged thousands of $$$ for God knows what.
So at the end of it all, turns out the culprit was my Pulley that "came loose" and knocked the belt out of alignment. It was called a freak occurrence by the service team. Results:
A. I am super happy that the engine did not seize.
B. Though my Route 66 warranty is only powertrain and did not cover the repair, the total costs... labor and taxes only came out to $750 (gladly pay extra for this specific job to be done at the dealership).
C. Knocked out a service that I was going to pay for anyway.
D. Major kudos to Brumo's service team for not trying to rob me and getting my car back to me in a couple business days. Really good experience with their staff. I highly recommend them to other NE P-car Floridians.
E. Bonus. Free car wash.
-Mike
PS: Arlington was good too. No BS and had the best rate for towing.

The serpentine belt was my first mechanical priority when I bought my current 06 C2S 9 months ago. It turned out I needed to replace pulleys too, even though the car had less than 8000 miles at the time.

I agree. My '05 is almost 11 years old (built 12/04) with over 60K. Had the belt replaced at the last major service when they did the plugs and coil packs, but the pulleys were fine.
