About to buy first 911, talk me into/out of it!
I have the money burning a hole in my pocket and am 99% sure I want to pull the trigger on this car tomorrow. Will you please help a new guy out and tell me what you think? I'm looking for a little positive reinforcement, or last minute advice to keep looking.
I will be getting a 100k/60mo maxcare warranty for $3,649 to go with it to set my IMS fears at ease.

For that money, I'd get a 911 s with slightly more mileage. Regardless of extended warranty, I would highly suggest a PPI by a mechanic who specializes in Porsche.
I think it's pretty rare to find a non-s with sport chrono though. Keep us updated!!!

sambrown,
If that is the Porsche of your dreams (i.e; color combo and options) then you should consider it. The price on the car might bit on the higher side for the options it has. Also, consider getting a PPI.

Sam, I just bought a 2007 S from CarMax, a great experience so far. The 30 day warranty is like a 30 day post purchase inspection. They fix whatever you find wrong with it!! I had a washer pump, frunk switch, oil pressure switch flaky, moisture in my turn signal (replaced), cracked rear brake light (replaced), updated coolant cap all replaced. I also turned 60k in the first 1000 miles and they did my 60k service (plugs, belt, filter, cabin filter).

Black over tan, I call that the Guinness Porsche! Tasty & satisfying. It's a great color combo IMO. Price seems a bit high compared to comps on Cars.com, but not crazy high. Hope it works out!

In the used Porsche market, I would not get a base Carrera because there is not a large price difference between a comparably equipped base model and an S model. If you get this one, save up some money and lower that SUV.

Never once in the 6 years I've owned my base C2 have I regretted not spending the extra $10K (at the time, when it was 4 yrs old) for a comparably-equipped S. Even if it had been $5K it would've been a waste for a DD. If I tracked it maybe I would have different priorities. When you have to look at it and drive it every day, color and options are the most important things.

Man, I was considering pulling the trigger on a white/beige 987.2 Cayman S at the same price point with Carmax a few months ago before I bought my 997. PDK, Bluetooth, PASM, Sports Chrono, 19" Carrera S wheels, it was perfect. If the prospect of an IMS issue scares you, I suggest you look at the 987.2s.
Do I regret my decision? ... Maybe a little, but my 997 has a few secrets that make her more special than the average base C2.

Do not buy from carmax without an independent PPI.

Ask them for 5 dealers (Porsche or non-Porsche) near your zip code. Call these dealers and ask for quotes (Platinum Coverage). I got the best quote from a VW dealer that also offers 10% down + 18 months 0% APR.

You are asking for opinions / input. I like the color combo. I personally wouldn't buy a non-S Porsche as my only Porsche and would pay up a bit more for an S. Bit different if I had a GT3 or something else in the stable. Nothing wrong w/base cars, of course, but the old the cars get, the more favored the S models will be imho.
I don't want to give an opinion on pricing really since condition varies dramatically. Only thought on Carmax is that I'm pretty ignorant about it but at this point wouldn't buy through it (unless you can see the car in person). For me, even PPI unless I know the person/dealer performing it very well and they know my standards too, is not enough.
Good luck! With the right warranty in place you can't really go too wrong.
