If 40-41k is your budget range you may be able to find:
1. A lower mileage mileage similarly equipped car.
2. A higher mileage S
3. '05 S with similar miles.
This car seems priced on the high side especially if you have to also pay the transfer fee. But if the money is burning a hole in your pocket and you want the car, buy it - you won't regret it!

Yep that was all within the standard 30 day window. I also got the extended 5 year 125,000 mile warranty but that hasn't kicked in yet. Still in my 30 day window!

If this car passes a PPI then it appears to be a good deal.
My money burned a hole in my pocket last year or else I'd be on the phone to them.

Thanks all, this has been a really helpful discussion and I am leaning towards yes, I am going to buy it. My very last question for you all is what is your opinion of "protective stickers" on the front of the car? If you look closely at the first 4 pictures in the listing (here) you can see a line going across the hood. I made them take more pictures and send me an explanation, and was told it was a paint protective sticker from the first owner.

Thoughts on those? Can they be removed? Should they not be removed? I was litterally ready to say "transfer it" when I saw the line.

Not really, I am committing $750 to move the car to my local carmax. Once it arrives, I would then test drive, PPI, etc. I wouldn't actually be committing the full $41k until it was here. Depending on what the community thinks about these protective stickers, I am trying to evaluate if it's even worth spending the $750 to get it here or not.

Sam…I don't have a clear bra on mine, but many Porsche owners do. My wife has Xpel on her Benz and it came off easily when the installer needed to do some touch ups on it after my wife had scuffed it while parking (bad parking instructions from her idiot husband is the official story).

Did they say if it was Xpel or some other variant? Xpel says it only requires warming & peeling it off.

I'd leave it on for the time being, unless it looks ratty, discolored, etc. Then once you've had the machine, and can check it out, decide if you want to keep it, remove it, put on new coating….T

Are you 100% sure that the CarMax warranty will cover the IMS issue? I'm in the same boat and called them a few minutes ago, and they had to get back to me about the IMS. Not to mention, I'd need it in writing even if it was via email, from a manager with a contract account or receipt stated in there as well. If a Porsche dealer could claim they have covered this prior, it would be great too.

The only thing that bothers me is the pricing for the car. I'd want PASM and 19inch wheels for that price. But other than that I do believe in the "never settle" mindset. And that setup is a very nice color combination and you can always add on other wheels. But the way I see it, you're already out of warranty from Porsche, as it's beyond 4 years. So getting one with 60-70k miles with an aftermarket warranty that covers bearings, would be best.

In my honesty, I'd be searching for a good warranty that covers the IMS more so than the color combination. (Hate that the IMS has been beaten to death but it's one of those things). Paying 40k + warranty for a car, the last thing you'd want is to not be covered and/or to have to sweat it for a few weeks.

Purchased my '07 C2S with 58k miles for $37.5k on Monday. Been on Cloud9 ever since!




As someone else said, I know a few people that have purchased cars from Carmax and they are great about fixing anything in the first 30 days.

Just my personal opinion of course, but for what Carmax is asking for that '07 you could find an '09 for perhaps another $6-7K and be done with the whole IMS thing altogether. I love my 997.1 but if I was looking for another Porsche today I would steer clear of the M96-M97 engines unless I was saving enough vs a .2 to pay for a new engine in worst-case scenario.

Not to throw a wrench in your plans but for $750 why not fly out and make a weekend out of it. Check it out, if it's the right car, drive it to get a PPI while you chill by the hotel pool. If it's a crap PPI return the car and fly home. If it's a great PPI spend the night and drive back.

Same experience here. I was planning to go 997.1 but then I thought about upgrading the exterior lights for LED, different wheels, ripping out the PCM, getting a warranty for IMS or setting aside a contingency fund etc...after all that it was a couple grand more to step it up to a 997.2 where I didn't have to do anything and I get 30 more horsies, no IMS, option to go PDK and and modern electronics with upgraded buttons etc...

Will Carmax even let you take a car for a PPI? Usually they don't toss you the keys and say come back when you feel like it. It would or could take a few hours to get a PPI done when you include travel to and from the place that does it. As for the 07 and IMS, well so far I've not seen a case documented in here where it failed.
