Default police on first drive

I received my 911 GTS today. It snowed earlier, but roads are perfect now. I just went to the grocery store. It is dark. When i got out of my car, a policeman was there in his vehicle, and said that i was driving 12 mph over the limit, then I didn't use the blinker at 3 separate times, and it was all on tape, and that he could write me for 4 tickets.

He let me off. I have never had anything like this happen.

I am wondering if owning a porsche is worth it, i don't want legal actions against me, and i respect the officers. I am not trying to drive recklessly at all. The blinker issue was to make a turn from an expressway onto and off of ramps in which no other cars were around.

I am just second guessing driving a porsche. If I will be singled out in my community, I am worried. I am going to garage it for a week or two, and I will slow down (12 mph over limit is high of course to a policeman). I didn't anticipate this, and i am not an aggressive driver at all. Feeling singled out, though he was right that i didn't use my blinker, etc.

I'm always extra courteous when driving the 911, there are too many reasons for people to not like you already, and something like not using a blinker is the icing on the cake for many.

Sorry to hear that. I drive like an a-- in my DD, but always try to be a perfect citizen in my 911. Having a red one didn't help either, but so far I've stayed out of trouble.

But always use your blinkers, even when you think no one's around. There could be a car with lights off that you didn't notice (did you see the police?)

Videotaped evidence, huh? I don't know how I would have responded to that ...

Probably with my right to remain silent and to have an attorney with me during questioning.

Sorry, but it goes with the territory. Police and kids in STi's will notice and follow you. Haters hate that you have a 911 and they don't. It draws attention, so you have to live with it. Just be mindful of that and keep an eye out for police and don't engage the pimple faced kids that want to race.

You're not giving any indication of where you live which makes a big difference. All I can tell you is that I live in the Tampa bay area in SW Florida and have a combined 80,000 miles in three 997's here. I don't hold back when driving and I sometimes get sloppy with the blinker but only saw one ticket over all those miles since 2007. Very few laser guns around here but got nailed with one of them doing 17 over. Reduced to a "moving violation" and $110. A 45 minute online defensive driving course wiped out the points so basically a non-event.

Maybe you should use your blinker next time. You're not driving a rusty pickup truck with expired tags or a Honda Odyssey filled with screaming kids, so no excuse.

Total BS, but get used to it.

To clear you conscience sell me your GTS for $50K and buy a Prius.
OK?

Glad to help.

You Friend,
Bud

In 1989 I bought a black Nissan 240SX...didn't make it home without a ticket (about 15 over where a highway merged into an avenue). The next day I was ticketed at a highway offramp speedtrap. I bought my first radar detector right afterwards and never got a ticket again with that car. But I did notice I would seemingly get singled out whenever I was in traffic. Moral of the story, you will get singled out with a sports car but if you drive judiciously with "countermeasures" you should be fine.

Don't worry about it. I never use blinkers unless I think the use of the blinker will be beneficial to someone.

If you are 200 feet behind me, I'm not using a blinker and that jackass cop is welcome to give me a ticket. There are more important things for them to do.

I do think he mentioned it as a result of going 12 over which depending on what the speed limit was lucky that you didn't get a ticket. Seems that the police officer may have wanted to prove a point there.

My last incident, the cop could have probably really screwed me over but he was very nice. I learned from that and really don't drive aggressively anymore. This was over a decade ago.

Anyway, don't worry about it. You aren't being targeted. Just know that you aren't flying under the radar (no pun intended) and act accordingly.

Enjoy the car.

You need to mind your P's and Q's in your Porsche. Actually any car. Accidents are not pleasant experiences.

But with Porsches -- and probably a few others cars -- cops notice them.

When you get a chance at a stop light and happen to be stopped where you can watch a cop in a cruiser, and provided he doesn't spend the entire stop light on his cell phone watch what cars he eyeballs as they go through the intersection: Loud cars, odd looking cars, hot rods, and sports cars.

Shortly after I got my Boxster I got pulled over. I was out in the snow with it. I was not speeding or acting up. I had just been in a nearby bowling alley parking lot getting in some skid pad time in the snow. But the cop didn't see that not that he would have found anything to complain about. He pulled me over just as I was pulling into my driveway. He ran the plate and found it belonged to a Chevy Camaro. Which was right. I had sold the Camara and transferred the plate to the Boxster. MoDoT just hadn't gotten around to updating the database yet.

Later that year in the summer I had a KS sheriff's car follow me for miles and miles through eastern KS.

More recently in CA I had a CHP cruiser follow me through several miles of freeway traffic to pull me over. I spotted him coming up through traffic a ways back. Ticket. But I fought it and it was dismissed. (Dismissed due to a lack of prosecution. IOWs, the citing officer failed to show up for the court date.)

In the Turbo I got pulled over just at Williams AZ by an AZ state trooper. I was so sleepy I had to get off the road and made it to the exit. He followed my car and pulled me over on the off ramp. Made a big show out of asking me to work my blinkers. I did. (I think I was so tired I had been mistaking the OBC stalk for the turn signal.) Lectured me on using my signals. Straight up he told me he expected LEO and sports drivers to drive better than the general population. Gave me a bad time about the V1 and the NAV unit on the windshield. No ticket. Got a warning of some kind. And had to remove the V1 and the NAV unit while in AZ.

One time in my Boxster I had a car turn in front of my Boxster to the point I had to take emergency action to avoid a collision. The other driver made a right turn against a red light (with a no turn on red sign at the intersection). There was a cop parking down the street a hundred feet or so in a gas station parking lot monitoring the intersection. As I drove by -- with the other car ahead of mine -- the cop pulled out and gave me the big old eye I guess looking to see if I was on my cell phone. Then he took off after the other driver.

One more: Down in TX on i-20 in my Boxster late at night. Then the night time speed limit was 65mph and strictly enforced. I got word -- over the CB radio -- of a city kitty in the median up ahead. Then the V1 started to chirp. I slowed down 5mph under the limit and as we (I was in amongst a few big rigs and at least one other passenger car) crested a slight rise with the V1 going crazy now and were visible to the cop's radar a red car not liking me slowing down whipped out into the passing lane and zoomed around my Boxster and raced on ahead.

As the big rigs and my car passed the cop I settled back to watch the show. However, I didn't expect to star in the thing. The cop pulled me over. All he had seen was the Boxster. As the cop pulled me over I heard over the CB radio one of the big rig drivers exclaim: "He's pulling over the wrong 4-wheeler!"

I argued (calmly and without any drama) with the cop and he let me off with a "warning". Not supposed to argue but I had also received a ticket in AZ on the other leg of this trip and didn't want to have fight two tickets in two different states at the same time.

There are other incidents. Bottom line is you just have to be aware the car can stick out like a sore thumb. If there is any reason to pull you over, and sometimes even if there is no reason, you'll get pulled over.

In some areas, at some times, it comes with the car.

Become a better driver. It will pay off as you will avoid accidents and the hassle of being pulled over. You might still get pulled over but fewer times than you would if you drove the Porsche the same way you might drive a mini-van.

Put me second in line if Bud backs out!

Your GTS will be noticed. Good for you. Your GTS will also (hopefully) increase your pride in driving and coax you to drive better. Look at it this way ... Your GTS will also get you some respect. Did you get a ticket? No. See my point?

Enjoy your fantastic new ride and welcome to the club. Post some pictures and share some details.

Whoa harsh...I guess I am just a huge a**hole too.But consider yourself a lucky one as I got a ticket for 11 mph over.I would have been stoked just to get some jealous red *** cop's verbal warning.
